I have had what seems to be extremely severe allergies for going on three days straight now. I am 15 weeks pregnant (first time) and have had allergies my whole life but I've never had a three day stint of completely relentless allergies. My doctor said I can take Benedryl, but that only provides very mild and temporary relief. Has anyone else had any experience with this? I am obviously going to go to the doctor to see what she says but I would like to get feedback from other expecting mothers.
I am affraid that if this is a regular thing I don't know how I'm going to handle work. I go through three boxes of tissue a day, have non-stop watery eyes, am sneezing every five minutes, extremely bad runny and stuffy nose and am extremely exhausted. I can't even drive to work like this let alone function at work.
Please comment, I would love to hear other's experiences and I will let you know how everything goes at the doctor.
Thanks!
Re: Severe Allergies...or something like it.
My allergies have not gotten any worse, but I take Zyrtec. It's a class B pregnancy drug, which is as good as it gets. I took it every day PP, but now I only take it when I need it, which is still a couple days a week. I think checking with your OB is a good idea. All OB's have a different "preference" list for what to take for different symptoms/ailments.
GL!
I have severe allergies to the point where people think I'm sick. As a matter of fact my nose is chapped & peeling right now! (Ooooo sooo fun!) Anyways, there's not much you can do according to my allergist & OB. All the "super meds" as I would call them are not allowed right now. You can take Benedryl, Claratin, and the other drugs listed above but if you're like me they won't work 100%. Allergy meds work their best when taken daily because they build up in your system.
Just take it easy. Stay in bed when you need to & take your meds every day. Sorry wish I had better news for you (well...us) but it is what it is until the baby is born. Good luck!
My ob said Zyrtec (without the D) is fine to take.
Also, if you get headaches (which I get bad when it comes to allergy time), he said Tylenol (extra strength is fine too) with some kind of caffeine (he recommended a shot of expresso or a cup of coffee.)
?
Try a netipot... it is a salt rinse through your nose, it is remarkable at cleaning things out and completely natural
Also there is a nosespray that is Cat B... Rhinocort??? something like that and that has helped me ontop of the Zyrtec recommended, but basically it is just a suffer through it thing...
Unless asthma is involved, then you may be moved to Class C drugs to ensure you stay breathing... if you can't breath the baby can't breathe...
