I just returned to work and am pumping twice a day, but only getting 4-5 ounces total at each session (pumping on both sides). And, I am using a hospital-grade machine, so I am worried that I am not getting enough.
How much do you get when you pump during the day?
(I feed DS twice in the a.m. before leaving and 2-3 times before he goes to bed at night).
Re: BF/Working moms and pumping - how much are you getting?
That sounds about right. At most, I think I got about 6 oz in a pumping session a few times, but it was mostly around 5 oz. I'd pump 3 times a day and get between 15 and 16 oz total.
Yeah, I get 5-7 onces, and I need to be sending 20 oz to daycare (DD is a piggy!) I'm going to have to add another pump too.
I think part of the problem is my flanges are too small-- can't wait until the new ones get here. I never realized it until i went back to work and needed to pump more often.
I just read on KellyMom that anything over 2 ounces would indicate an oversupply so it sounds like you're doing well!
I have a major oversupply, and I get 9 ounces when I pump in the morning and then only 4-5 ounces when I pump after that.
I would add a third pumping session each day. Also, are you pumping for a full 20 minutes? I sometimes get a second and even third letdown. Pumping for 20 minutes for even three or four days can increase your supply.
When DD was younger I pumped between 12 and 16 oz in three sessions each day. When she turned 9 mo. and started drinking less at daycare since she eats more solids now, I dropped down to two sessions and get about 8 oz per day.
GL!
I think that sounds fine. At my pumping height, I had a big morning session and then got about 4 ounces each during my second and third sessions.
I would add a third session if you aren't getting enough.
This is exactly my pumping schedule at work also. 3x at these times for about 10 minutes also and I get 5-6 oz. each session.
