Hi! I'll be getting my first ultrasound at the end of the month. I'm pretty sure it's the invasive wand thing (I've heard this refered to as the dildocam), at least for the next few months. Am I right? And, does anyone know when they switch to the non-invasive camera thingy? Just want to prepare myself! Thanks.
Re: when do the ultrasounds switch from internal to external?
My first external was at 11w5d and the baby was still just low enough that we couldn't get a good picture, but then the NT scan was at 12w2d and external and the image was great.
At 7w2d it was an internal scan.
My last u/s was at 9w 3d at it was internal. The next time I go for an u/s I am having my NT scan at 12w 6d and it will be external. I think everything after that will be external.
I had my first external at 9 wk 5d and it was a good picture. I think every doctor differs on this.
The internal exam is not bad at all!!

I've never heard it called this but its a perfect description of it. As for the internal, its slightly uncomfortable but doesn't hurt at all. For me the most uncomfortable part was when she was looking at my ovaries. That was interesting!
