And I don't think people would automatically shorten it. I think people tend to call whoever as they're introduced. Then later on if they're closer, they might shorten it, but you can always say no, it's Deanna

I've known a Deanna for many years and everyone pronounces it Dee- ahna. Deanna is like Brianna (Bre-ahna). No one calls her Dee or Dee Dee. I love this name!!
Deonna looks like Dee-OH-nah to me or Donna. Deana would be Dee-anna or Dina. I also don't know how you'd get Dee-ahna. Unless you did spell it Deahna....
My cousin is Deanna, pronounced Dee-Anna. No one in the family ever called her Dee, but I don't know for sure that her friends didn't do that in school.
I don't know how you're going to get people to automatically think Dee-ahna. Deahna still looks like a convoluted Dina.
I would say it Dee-anna.However, last year's Bachelorette was Deanna pronounced Dee-ahna. I think it would be a thing where you would have to correct people either way, b/c some people will be inclined to pronounce it one way, and some people the other.
Deana would be Dean-uh to me. Dionna might work...similar to Dionne?
And I don't think people would automatically shorten it. I think people tend to call whoever as they're introduced. Then later on if they're closer, they might shorten it, but you can always say no, it's Deanna
Dee-anna. Deana would make me think of the boy's name Dean, with an a on the end, not De-ahna.
As far as getting to Diana, other than if you're Latin and spelling it Diana, I just don't think it works. That's like saying, I like the name Rebecca, pronounced with a LONG E in the middle, like Re-BEEK-ah. No one is ever going to pronounce it right, and pronouncing it different really just makes it a made-up name IMO.
I would pronounce it Dee-anna. If you like the 2nd better i would loose an "n" (Deana) I knew a Deanna and we always called her by her full name. I don't think nicknames will be an issue.

How do you pronounce the name Deanna? H really wants to use this name for our girl.
Would you say Dee anna or Dee ahna. We would want it pronounced the second way, but not sure how to avoid the first pronunciation.
Also, I'm not a fan of nicknames. Do you think people would shorten Deanna to Dee? Ick.
Hey my nickname is Dee But it is short for Deandra. Similar to Deanna but not quite the same. I think my full name is ick so I only go by my nickname
LOL. My nickname is also Dee or Dee Dee more often. I tend to pronounce it Dee-anna but there is the last Bachelorette and I went to school with a girl Diana whose name was pronounced the way you want it to be.
Dee Dee

I pronounce it Dee-anna. I know a little girl named Dionna, which is pronounced your preferred way. I do call her "Dee" sometimes though. I think it's cute. I'm not sure how you keep people from shortening it, except just to never use the shortened name yourself.
I say if you like the name, use it! People will pronounce it however you tell them it is pronounced. I know a Deanna, and she pronounces it De -ahna. Her family sometimes call her Dee or DeeDee, but I have always called her Deanna.
I'd pronounce it "dee-anna," and expect the "dee-ahna" pronounciation if it were "Dionna."
That being said, you can pronounce it whichever way you prefer; just remember that you and she will just have to correct people for the rest of her life. No one gets upset when someone specifies "ANdrea" or "ahnDRAYa," so it wouldn't be a big deal.
I know this is a super-late reply, but I had to reply because that's my name!
I say "Dee-anna" (and Deana would be like Dean-uh). If you want it to be like "Dee-ohna" then you just have to start out that way when you tell everyone her name. Or, you could always go with D'Ana -- I've seen others spelled DeAnna, too.
I get called everything even close to it -- Diana, Diane, Deena, Donna, Dean. And when I leave messages for people, they often write it as "Dianna." And I really don't think it's a difficult name!
As for being called "Dee," people do it ALL the time -- but I think it's more like "D" instead. However, I also can't stand when people call me that so I correct them. I usually say, "My grandma's name was Delores and everyone called her Dee so it's Deanna for me!"

When I read it, I prounouced it as Dee Anna. In case it is a big worry for you, I just wanted to let you know as a heads up that I have a friend with the name Anna which is supposed to be pronounced Ah-na, but she always gets called An-na
Re: How do you pronounce this name?
I would say De-anna. Deana maybe for ahna?
