Had my first internal yesterday...yeeeoowwch! I felt like such a whiner but man it hurt...2 cm dilated...then he offered to strip my membranes...I've been very desperate all week so I accepted after the pain of the internal...I guess if nothing becomes of it by tomorrow night I will regret doing it because it hurt so bad I cried...hopefully this isn't an embarrassing display of my pain tolerance (or lack there of)

    LOL  I had my first internal today and it was not too bad, no stripping if membranes though, the internal was enough.

    Can I ask a stupid question? I have my first internal on Friday and I am nervous cause I keep hearing how painful it is. What makes it painful,? B/c I am still having sex and whatnot and that doesnt hurt....is it b/c OB goes in way deep or something?

    I had my membranes stripped today too.  Here's to hoping both us get some labor progress out of it!

    The doctor sticks his/her hand way up there.  Mine didn't hurt too bad, but I have a very petite female doctor.  No membrane stripping for me though.

    The dr is actually pushing on your cervix and that is what hurts.  I will say that I've had lots of internals during this pg because of a risk of PTL and some have hurt worse than others.  Some of it depends on how sensitive your cervix is and some of it depends on the dr's technique. 

    FWIW-sex can hurt too if he hits your cervix.  That's why you read all the posts suggesting to take it slow and easy to figure out what's comfortable and what hurts.

    This might sounds dumb, but I am not sure if I have had one. I had some bad cramping a week or 2 ago and I went in and my OB checked my cervix to make sure it was closed (it was). Was that it, or do they do a more thorough check when you are farther along??

    I had my first internal today, and it didn't hurt so much as it was really uncomfortable. This is because he doctor's fingers go further up than your DH can reach in sex. It felt like she put her entire fingers up and then tried to push farther, which was not a pleasant feeling by any means. Oh, and she found that I was only a fingertip dialated and not at all effaced. Oh, well.

    That's an internal. Quick in and out check to feel if the cervix is open.

    I agree, mine hurt also... I had one in the hospital on monday and i thought her hand was going to come out my mouth.. LOL!!..

    and i have a doctor appiontment tomorrow so i get another one... Yippee!!
