Anyone with an Ergo?

Those with the Ergo... Can you tell me the pros and cons of it? ?I have a Baby Bjorn, which my husband likes using and a Moby, that I like using. ?I've been doing a lot of research and am pretty close to getting the Ergo. ?But the price is pretty steep, so I don't want to buy a product that won't be worth it. ?

My husband of course doesn't think we need another carrier. ?But once my daughter gets a bit heavier (she's about 12 lbs now), I'm thinking the Moby and Bjorn won't be very supportive and start to take a toll on our backs. ?We also love to hike, which I've heard the Ergo is great for. ??

Thanks for your help! ?I'd love to hear how yours is working out.

?

P.S. Where did you buy your Ergo? ??

  • I'm interested to know if it's really worth the price too. I think the EF girls would have some excellent feedback for you if you don't get any here...

I love love my Ergo. I used it this weekend on a camping trip.

I was able to swaddle ds and lay him like we had an infant insert for naps.

It's super comfy (especially on the back).

I was able to BFed with it on. It made a great cover.

I carried a 30 lbs 18 month old on my back, and it was still comfortable. And he loved it.

  • Pretty much everyone I know has the Ergo.  It is a great carrier and you can use it for at least 2.5 years.  I have a mei tai, that I made, but it is like Eden baby Carrier.  I like it better than the Ergo only because it folds up very small.  The ergo is smaller than the bjorn, but still takes up some space.  I know people who use the ergo instead of a stroller all the time and are very happy with it.  I think the Ergo works best for babies that are >6 months.
  • I have a moby and an Ergo. I have to be honest and tell you that I haven't really used my Ergo that much yet, mostly just been using the moby. DD is just now starting to fit in it (without the infant insert- which I did purchase, but wasn't crazy about). Cons for me are that DD can't face out in the Ergo...she is wicked nosy and loves to look around. Pros are that it's wicked easy to use and super comfortable. Plus it's not super feminine so DH will wear it too. I know that as DD gets bigger we will be using it a ton. HTH.

  • Bjorn is bad for babys hips.

Love my Ergo Sport and my Moby.

  • I got an Ergo a few weeks ago. DS and I both love it and falls asleep in it everytime.I don't have the infant insert and DS is just fine in there. He weighs around 12lbs.

I had a Peanut Shell Sling before and it killed my back after 5 minutes, I wore the Ergo for 2 hrs the other day with no problems. I was torn between Ergo and BabyHawk but I knew DH wouldn't wear the BabyHawk so I went with the Ergo so we could both use it.

  • DD loves our Ergo, so it's worth the price right there. She has a love-hate relationship with the Maya and Moby wraps.

I haven't put her in a Bjorn, because it's supposedly bad for hips (apparently hidden in the directions is something about not using it for more than 30 min/day). And plus, our friends with children all told us we HAD to get an Ergo and to not waste our money on a Bjorn, because the Ergo is comfortable for carrying babies a lot longer. The Ergo is more comfortable to carry a heavier infant in. People we know said they couldn't use the Bjorn after their LO was ~ 15 lbs, but everyone has used their Ergo waaaay longer. Being able to use it longer and be more comfortable makes it worth the money to me.

ETA: we bought ours from a local children's store.
