OK, so I was just reading the whole "my e-feelings are hurt post." which led me to the post about letting lo nap with a blanket. DD has been sleeping with a blanket for about 2 months now. I use either a receiving blanket or a crocheted blanket. Nothing too heavy and just put it up to her chest.
Am I a bad mom? Don't a lot of people swaddle their LO's? Isn't this kind of the same thing?? We never swaddled b/c DD always kicked out of it and ended up with the blanket just laying on her anyhow.
I know you are not supposed to let LO sleep with anything in the crib, I know that. I guess I just broke the blanket rule b/c of the whole swaddle thing. I'm not going to stop doing it b/c DD sleeps great, I was just curious what everyone else did? Swaddle? Blanket? Nothing?
Re: I'm confused (Re:blankets) flameworthy??

i think lots of parents use blankets/bumpers/swaddles/etc....
and opinions are like a-holes
that being said....i do what works for my child and I.
We swaddle and blanket (if needed)...no issues here. Definitely no flames! Like you I've always used a light blanket or a knit one so I'm not concerned. To be honest I don't concern myself with things that we're told are safe and unsafe. I use common sense and common sense to me says that if my baby is cold she'll be able to breath through a blanket that has 1/2" holes knitted into it! I also use bumpers...the scandal!!
I swaggle with a receiving blanket AND put another blanket supporting his back and covering his feet. He likes sleepingon his side.
I dont think you're breaking any rules... every baby is different. Just be sure your LO wont pull it into his face. Maybe you can try swaddling without tucking in the arms,
We don't swaddle anymore b/c DS breaks out of it. In his crib he has his blanket, FP seahorse and his lovey when he goes to sleep.
I don't see why this whole thing was such a big deal....
This. DD pulls blankets up over her face and they get wrapped around her head. Too risky. I just make sure she's dressed appropriately at night.
A swaddle and a loose blanket are not the same. We swaddled both kids but they did/will not sleep with a blanket until after 1.
The swaddle is wrapped tightly and is fine a loose blanket has a risk.
If they can kick it over their face it is a risk.
For me the what if is just not worth it.
Ok, this would worry me. But, like pp said, DD usually ends up kicking the blanket off of her anyhow.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! Effing Bump! Just forget it. What I was trying to say was not that important. lol.
ditto, DS always has his hands over his head or on his ears as if he's listening to music in headphones
DS kicks and squirms so much that we had to get Swaddle Mes from BRU. They have velcro to keep them in place.
I'll put DS down for a nap with a blanket, but 99% of the time he's in his swing in the living room where I'm constantly walking by. He has been known to shimmy and slide down to get the blanket over his face, so I have to tuck it in his armpits and still keep an eye on him.
Overnight absolutely no blankets for us. Just the Swaddle Me. He would definitely shimmy his way under the blanket, and when we're sleeping, too, we can't watch him to make sure he's ok.
