hmm... my boob hurts today...?

so i've always had less luck with my left breast for BF'ing, she doesn't like it as much, and so it produces less, or the other way around, i dunno.  anyway she still wakes overnight but often it is only once and so i use my right breast just so she won't fuss and will go quickly back to sleep.  that means my left side might not be used for like 10 hrs or so until morning.  and during the day i always start with it, but she always fusses, even when i can see there is clearly milk coming out.

well anyway that's the background - the past few mornings my left breast has been just the tiniest bit painful when i wake up in the morning.  it gets better during the day though.  but this morning, it not only hurt but kinda went up to my armpit area.  the breast feels better now but the armpit pain is still there (like a lymph node or something?) if i use the muscles in that arm.  what the heck does that mean?

we have our 6 month appt today so i will ask, but you guys always have such good suggestions and i'm impatient.  Big Smile

  • Could the duct be getting clogged from lack of use? I have gotten mastitis a few times but that involved a hot boob and me getting a fever.

OK that was a guess i had too, and i'm glad to hear it doesn't sound like mastisis!  sorry to hear you've had it a few times  Sad

  • I have had one real plugged duct and then a few other times I've gotten very sore boobs-- I can always trace it back to not letting J have enough time to drain the boob or to going too long without nursing from that boob.  The reason that I think that only one time was it a real plugged duct was b/c the pain was excruciating.  I really had to take it easy and follow the directions for making it better on kellymom.  The other times that it was just sore, I just paid extra attention to it and made sure that J drained it frequently; also I pumped it more. I know exactly what you mean by the soreness up to your armpit though-- mine extended that far too. Hope that helps to at least know that it's normal!
  • ohhh good thanks sooo much!  glad to know the arm thing isn't something weird.  Smile
