I just got back from my 39 week appointment and she went over my induction that is scheduled for Monday (if I don't go this week/weekend). She said she prefers to use Cytotec vaginally to induce labor. Anyone have any experience with this or info. Being induced because I am measuring 5 weeks ahead. TIA
Re: Does anyone know anything about Cytotec used for induction?
This! OMG. This is an off-label use of the drug and the potential side effects are truly horrifying.
Uh, that was not a crappy response...it was helpful and true. Be careful, very very careful with this stuff.

JCM didn't give you a crappy response -- she just told you what you didn't want to hear.
But even Cytotec manufacturer's do not recommend it for inducing labor.
oh, and it's advice.
If you're going to throw a tantrum, at least double-check your grammar & spelling so I can take you seriously.
I looked it up on drugs at medscape.com (my favorite site to refer to) and although its not approved for use as an induction, it has been known to be used as such. "This medication may also be used to assist with childbirth only at the time of delivery (e.g., cervical ripening, induction of labor) and for the treatment of severe bleeding after delivery. When misoprostol is used vaginally for these purposes, it works by causing the womb muscles to contract."
Hope that helps a little.
LOL
And if you wanted ADVICE from those who have done it, asking the 3rd tri board (while some are 2nd+ time moms, most of us aren't) seems a little odd. Your post looks like you were just looking for any info on it, which was given.
This drug is definitely not a preferred method. If you would like to try natural methods: cervical balloon, stripping of membranes, evening primrose oil, etc. Other methods: Cervadil possibly with Pitocin.
Sazzie, where did you see Pregnant in America? I've been wanting to see it for a couple of years now, but don't know where to find it!

I watched that too and it was the first time I had heard that cytotec wasn't FDA approved. I would be safe and request an alternative.

How on earth was this a crappy reply? She was giving you exactly the advice you asked for and it's absolutely accurate. Use cytotec if you want, certainly many doctors still do. But it is no approved for this use.
One drawback of cytotec, as I understand it, is it can't be turned "off" once it's started, whereas cervidil can be removed.
