  just be well rested and have a lot of patience. DS is very active and we flew from NY to AZ (6hrs on 2 planes) last month and it was very stressful. he wasn't trying to get out of our laps much and i think that's b/c he's used to having to sit with us at church every week. but he did get restless and he was loud a lot and wanted to kick the seat in front of us and put the tray up and down, etc. we got somer dirty looks but oh well. he did sleep a lot which made the flights go by faster. the things i brought to occupy him didn't work. the elmo dvd failed b/c he kept wanting to slam the dvd player shut. i bought tadoodles crayons which he hated. he liked playing with the plastic cups they give you and the packs of peanuts(unopened).

  i would bring some favorite and some new snacks, some type of carrier like an ergo and i'd let ur ds watch all of the tv he wants.

  we went to australia last year (3 flights & 25+ hours) and the return flight was 10x harder than going there. dd is very loud and screamed a lot and i felt really bad for the people around me. we just had to walk her up and down the aisle to keep her content.
  

  also definitely request bulkhead seats if possible. we set down a blanket in front of us and let her play w/toys and books.

  I have a very loud, active toddler and I was so nervous about flying with him.  We did not buy a seat and he was wonderful!  He was very content sitting in our laps, we brought snacks, drinks, and books.  We didn't think he would fall asleep either, but on one of our return flights, he fell asleep as soon as the plane took off and woke up when we landed.  We had a great experience!  Good luck!
