3rd Trimester

Hospital:shared room or private?

We just had our hospital tour last night!  Totally made everything seem so much more real to us!!  DH is beside himself excited now, he was loving it!

I was SO impressed with the labor rooms (which they refer to as suites...because seriously it feels like a hotel!).  Every room is private, and even if you have to be moved to a smaller postpartum room they are private as well.

I didn't really expect this, and was very relieved.  Is this common?  Do you know if you will have to share a room, or are most rooms private these days?

Re: Hospital:shared room or private?

  • The hospital I'm delivering at has private rooms only. Yay!

  • Mine are private... triage is a 3 bed room with curtains, but after you are admitted you have your own room until you leave :)
  • I know several people have had to share a room but not me! Our hospital has private rooms as well. It is wonderful!  I can't imagine sharing!
  • Our LDR rooms and postpartum rooms are all private where I am delivering.
  • I think most rooms are private now. Mine is.

    This!

  • Both rooms will be private at my hospital.
  • The hospital where I am delivering has all private rooms as well. SO happy about that!

  • The rooms at our hospital are also private. They call them L&D suites, it's so nice because once you get to the hospital & get admitted, you stay in the same room the whole time! It will be nice to not have to move all around & just be able to stay in one spot. Unless you have a c-section of course...

  • All the rooms at our hospital are private but we only have 9, I think. We have a small hospital!

  • Our delivery rooms are private, but the recovery rooms are not.  They put one person in each room, but if they are having an especially busy schedule, I may have to share. I am not happy about this b/c I was told they were all private.  If I have to share, my H will not be able to stay with me.  I have a feeling I will need him with me.
  • The hospital I am delivering at will give you a private room...but if they start to get booked up you may have to share.  The birthing rooms are nice, big, and private, but the post-birth rooms are normal hospital rooms, and have two beds.  I am hoping to get lucky and not end up with a roommate!
  • All L&D rooms are private here. It's the recovery rooms that are shared or private. You can request a private room. We did and I'm sooo glad we did.

  • Ours are private only now too. They just became that way after a remodel last year.  When I had my DD almost 3 years ago, I had a roommate.  It was not ideal for sure!
  • Private rooms!
  • my hospital has some semi-private, but no wards anymore (thank goodness!)

    Private's the way to go!?

  • both the delivery room and postpartum room are private but they are also small, there would be no room to put another bed in even if they wanted to.

private rooms only at my hospital, too.
  • Mine has private rooms for triage, L&D, and recovery.
  • at the new hospital, triage has a total of 6 beds. once you pass that, you stay in your private room (any of the 24, all of which have bathtubs, and pullout sofabeds for the DH... mmm) from labour, until they discharge you. Smile
  • My hospital has some semi-private rooms, but the nurse who gave us the tour said they hadn't had to put two women in a room together in 5 years.  She actually recommended NOT paying the extra for the "private" room.  Now that I know October 5th is the most common due date, though, I'm starting to get a little nervous about relying on the hospital just not being busy.  It seems like there's a baby boom here.

  • Our L&D and post-partum rooms are all private and newly renovated...so nice! I had a friend who delivered at another hospital and she was give the option to pay extra to have a private room ($100/night, I think). That seemed pretty odd to me, but if that was the only way to get a private room I would pay the price!
  • Both hospitals my OB's practice is affiliated with has all private rooms now and they're billed at the standard rate.  The one I'm delivering at has a futon for my DH to sleep on (the other has a smaller couch).

I did NOT want to share a room and am quite pleased that I don't have to.

    this.

  • I am so jealous, no such luck in NYC. The L&D rooms are private and really nice, but the recovery rooms are shared. You can get on the wait list for a private room but they are $850 a night, not covered by insurance. :(
  • Our hospital has private rooms only, with a DVD player, place for dad to sleep, etc etc.

But I'm delivering at a private hospital.

  • All rooms including triage are private at my hospital.  They all feel like hotel rooms as well!

  • Private rooms for me!  I can't imagine having just gone through labor and then having to sit through another person going through the same!

  • Ours are private and we deliver in the same room that we are in the whole time (unless it's a c-section).  They even bathe and check the baby and do everything in the room with you there.
  • Oh and there is a private chef for all the new moms on the floor!  I hear the breakfast burritos rock!
  • I have always had a private room. I know at some hospitals they are made to serve 2 people but sometimes your still by urself : ). I personally like private rooms you dont have to worry about someone elses' baby keeping you up when ur ready to sleep or the room being over crowded with your guest and theres.
  • Private rooms only-and ours are like yours: HUGE! And each bathroom has a birthing tub.
