1st Trimester

Just cuz I don't have an alcoholic drink....

Man, I guess this is what I get.  Just because I don't order an alcoholic drink at dinner with friends, they have to ask if I'm pregnant!  LOL.   I have anxiety whenever I go out to dinner with a friend I haven't hung out with in awhile and they wonder why I don't participate in happy hour!  Last night I came up with the excuse that my tummy was upset from all the 4th of July weekend festivities.  They can infer what they like from that, but it seems like they automatically thought I was hanging over still! LOL.  I guess I didn't realize how much I drank until people pointed out that me not drinking was unusual. 3 more weeks til we anounce our LO on the way. I think I'll just reject all dinner invites until then.

  • yea, i got that one the other night too!  I claimed I was all beer'd out after our Germany trip and she bought it.  We still have 6 more weeks before we tell anyone so I'm going to have to think up more excuses!

  • Oh, I knew I was going to have this problem from the get-go.  When our friends get together, alcohol is always served, and I always partook.

I faked it with sprite with lime for awhile until we were ready to tell them.  Then I was drinking water on July 3 at a friend's party that didn't know yet, and of course someone had to look in my cup and say "What are you drinking?  WATER?!  Why!?"

Funny how people care so much about what other people have in their glass.

  • I was outed by my friends last week when I tried to be sneaky and order a virgin strawberry daiquiri and the waitress said the order VERY loudly :( And then last night by family bugged me about drinking water. I think it just goes with the territory of 1st tri :)
  • Same here, but I can't complain.  I was guilty of hasrassing all of my friends when they didn't drink.  I didn't get the concept of "its none of your damn business" until it was me.

  • I have just mostly done the switch-a-roo with my H, so far I have been good, but I did go for mexican with my BF last week and got outed by ordering a lemonade, she was so excited and knew right away, I was planning on telling her that night anyway...

Strange thing is that two people have called asking if I was PG (not even knowing that we just started to try).  One I lied and one i told the truth.... Ironcially I lied to the one days after we were out "drinking" a few nights before.

Luckily the cat's out for me is after my NT scan on the 24th so I can end all this.

  • yup, one of my friends guessed immediately at a party last week.  All she said was "Just tea, huh?"  But I couldn't keep a strait face.  Oh well, she is someone who I am close to, so I know she'll keep my secret.
  • Big Smile Haha I definitely had to be sneaky as well since I'm typically a big drinker. I kept people off my back by sneaking O'Doul's on occasion into my glass at home parties. If I was drinking or eating out, I'd order separately, like at the bar, and make sure they knew I wanted it kept secret. When I went to a party, I took a Caffeine free Coke bottle and said it was rum and Coke...Kinda funny for awhile, but I'm glad that mess if over now because I honestly have NO desire to drink any kind of alcohol right now, especially with all the nausea! All these efforts paid off though, because the announcement was a surprise, and friends/fam would have guessed it RIGHT AWAY if they knew I stopped drinking.

Looking back, it's probably best just to flat out avoid these situations if you can. And keep in mind, although there is debate on this, if you were to have say, a half a glass of wine or something, it's not the end of the world. Just make sure your DH or whoever helps you drink the real thing while no one is looking!

  • It's been so tricky and we've only been hiding it for 1 weekend!  Here's another idea for those who may need it....worked out well.  I'm a beer drinker, so DH dumped out a few bottles of Bud Light and filled them with a lemonade/7 Up mix.  He recapped them and was sure to have the tall coolie cup over the bottle at all times since the color was a little lighter than actual beer.  No one expected anything over the 4th of July weekend, so we will see how long we can keep this up.Wink
  • I went for the flat out lie.  Claimed last week I had an infected tooth and I'm on anitibiotics and pain killers.  Friends we had over for the weekend didn't buy it at all.  Eventually told them.  Co-workers are buying it, but it will have to end this week when I have my "dentist" (really u/s) appt this week.  And I'll be ducking happy hours for the next couple of weeks.

  • Lol, my hubby and I had pre worked out a plan for the 4th of July.  I had a wine glass and kept filling it, or he would, with grape juice, then walk out and announce one way or another that he'd refilled my red wine :)  Other than that, I've been telling folks I had too much fun a couple of weeks ago, so I've "grounded" myself for a few weeks...  Hopefully they won't realize how many weeks it is - I have 6 more weeks before we're telling anyone.

  • That's how my parents figured it out before we did the big reveal - because I declined wine at dinner one night.

I've decided that after the baby is born I'm going to mess with people and occassionally just not order a drink.   Stick out tongue
