What does your LO swim with at the pool?

C has the swimways baby float with the canopy (the blue one). He used to love it, now... he'd rather be held. It gets tiring holding him for so long. We usually pass him back and forth. Is there something else I could get for him that he may like better?

  • We have the same one. When dd isn't in that, we just hold her. It does get tiring, but I'm hoping she'll learn to swim sooner because of it.

  • Dd will not use a floatie! None of them. I bought a float and I am hoping she will lay with me. She loves to play on the steps with her bath toys.
  • My DD refuses any kind of floatie as well. All she wants to do is sit on the steps. Sometimes she is okay when I hold her.
  • DS uses those water wing things and loves them.

this...we have a pool, and he wears them when he is in with me and DH. He likes to jump off the side and then swim to us. He has done pretty well with them. Come his third bday I want to put him in a class, but for now this works well

  • DD won't use a float.  She hates being confined now.  We have some water wings but she rarely wears those.  She has a spring float that she likes.  It's the kind where you lay in it but it's for toddlers.  Mostly we just hold her or she jumps off the side into our arms.
  • we got Griffin a puddle jumpers life vest/swimmie thing - made by Sterns.  It gets great reviews for helping kids swim (much better than those plastic swimmie things) and is coast guard approved as a life vest, too.

Griffin has only used it once and already it's giving him more confidence so he doesn't cling to us in the water.  I think a child has to be 30lbs to use it though... not suer how big your DS is.

  • We put swimmies on DS but I wasn't entirely comfortable, so we added a vest. It's great. He didn't want to be held in the water, so this works really well for us.
  • Aiden just finished his swim lessons so we strap him in a life jacket and he goes all day long. I was worried that at 2 and a half he was too young but he loves the water. He did great and learned how to hold his breath and float too so if water does get in his face he doesn't freak out anymore.

  • we just put Olivia in water wings this weekend and you would have thought we invented string cheese she was so happy.  I have never heard her laugh so much for so long.  She had a great time.

I still have to "hold her" but really only by the feet, or belly - it is not as exhausting as really holding her up.

  • thanks! sounds like for now it's holding him or water wings/holding him.
  • just a ring tube. she can get most anywhere and knows how to "relax" back into it so she loves it.
  • Last year Jack had a boat thingy that he could drive like a Sea Do. He's 2 1/2 now and I will not allow him to ride in anything this summer. The boy needs to be more comfortable in the water. Of course he's a lot older than your boy.

Our float was something sort of like this only it came from Target and was white and not so high in front that he couldn't see over the top.  Toddler Racer

  • My SIl had a vest for her to use and she likes it. She still hold on to us though.  I tried the water wings and she refused to wear them.  I don't mind holding on to her. She just learned to jump to us over the weekend.
