1st Trimester

Anyone else having issues sleeping?

Ever since I found out I'm pregnant, it's like my body thinks that I have too much to do to let me sleep. I was wide awake when I tried to go to bed at midnight last night (which is late for me, I'm usually asleep by 10!) and I woke up at 5am this morning, not even tired. What is going on?! Also, when do I have to stop sleeping on my stomach? I have been trying to sleep on my side instead lately, but it is so uncomfortable. Let me know what you all think. Thanks!

Re: Anyone else having issues sleeping?

  • My sleeping issues consist of sleeping too much. My body gets so tired by 2pm-i'm pretty much done for the day. It's so sad. Hopefully I get some energy back!
Married my BEST FRIEND on December 1, 2007. Started TTC in March 2008. Found out we were expecting our first child in October 2008 - but had a m/c in December 2008 - resulting in a d&e. Met with a RE in May 2009 and set a plan - but conceived unexpectedly on our own! Our precious little Sophia was born on February 9, 2010! Lilypie Third Birthday tickers

  • I can't fall asleep at night, and wake up super early in the morning.  I used to fall asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow....now I just can't turn my mind off from thinking about baby things.  As for sleeping on your stomach, I'm pretty sure that's not a problem until around 12 weeks.
  • I think half the reason I'm not sleeping well is b/c my mind is so busy. If it helps... keep a notepad by your bed and just jot things down that you need to remember.

    ?

But the hormones can mess with your sleep. ?Also, I've been told you can sleep however you feel comfortable until you can't sleep that way anymore. I wouldn't worry about side sleeping yet.

  • I guess my issue is similar...my body is exhausted, but my brain won't turn off :(

I've never been good at napping, but I'm getting better.   Unfortunately, I have to lie there for 40 minutes to get a ten minute nap going!  It sucks.

  • I haven't had a full night's sleep since I found out I was pg. Partly 'cuz I fall asleep soooo early, so I wake up very early - but I also awake a few times in the middle of the night, and it takes me a while to fall back asleep. Nature's cruel way of getting us prepared for a baby's sleeping (or non-sleeping) habits!!
  • Yep, same thing is happening to me.  Can't fall asleep and wide awake at the buttcrack of dawn.  I thought that this was happening because I'm not drinking anymore.

What happened to being exhausted and sleeping all the time?

I'm not much help, but good luck!

  • I was just thinking about this this morning.  I wake up early (because of DH getting ready for work), and once in a blue moon can fall back asleep.  But then I'm tired all day and fall asleep around 2 every day.  It's a good thing I'm off for the summer (teacher) otherwise I would be in big trouble.  Then I have a hard time falling asleep at night.  I can't get in a comfortable position, the dog is laying up against me making me hot, I have to get up to pee all the time, ugh!

TTC #1 since 7/08 After 3 years, 2 losses, 3 rounds of IUI, and one round of IVF, we finally have our dream come true! DS born 7/30/11

TTC #2 off and on since 7/12

  • Oh the same thing is happening to me.  My DH slept on the couch last night so I could get a full nights sleep and I almost did.  I woke up at 5:45 for 10 or so minutes.  I woke at 7:20 feeling fine!

Belly sleeping is okay right now.  Baby will tell you when it is time to quit (but ask your Dr next time you go in just to be sure).

  • Usually on Monday nights I hit the pillow and I'm out.  I couldn't stop tossing and turning all night.

Yes!  I am exhausted all day long, but as soon as I try to fall asleep, my mind starts going a mile a minute.
  • Yes, I have not been sleeping well since just before my BFP - I have been getting up in the middle of night because I can no longer sleep or I wake up super early.  I do take shorts naps during the day though, anywhere from a 45 minute to 1.5 hours.  I still sleep on my stomach, although sometimes I have to shift to my side due to bloat.

  • I remember last time around that I was super wakeful for the first few weeks I knew and then the first trimester tired hit me - you will seriously want to come home from work and crawl in bed.  I wake up at 4am every morning and pretty much still did when the 1st tri tired hit, only I was very groggy.
  • I fall asleep in about 5 seconds around 9 and I am good for at least 2 middle of the night stetches where I am up for at least an hour a piece.  I end up putting a TV show on my Ipod and watching.  its very annoying.
  • b/t DH trying to cuddle ( which is normally nice but right now GET AWAY IM HOT!!!) and my dog who now needs to sleep against my tummy i feel like a caged animal! i pee 3 times a night and when i have to get up i have to climb over everyone!! my poor DH this morning put his leg on mine and i pushed it off and said NOOOOO STOP IT! he's like what???? hahhahah ohhh well!! im just getting used to it now
  • My doctor told me that sleeping on you stomach only becomes an issue when it becomes painful or uncomfortable to you.

As far as sleeping goes, I did that for a couple of weeks but this week so far I have been sleeping like a rock (in some cases that rock being my knee in DH back) Big Smile

  • Yes! And it stinks! I miss sleeping the whole night thru and for sleeping more than 5 - 6 hours per a night. Ugh. I don't think you have to worry about sleeping on your left side till farther on.

Sleep on your stomach as long as you feel comfortable. Once you can't do it anymore you will miss it...
