books for potty training! I have done some research online, but I'd like to get some recommendations for books to read. I would love to get Eli started here soon. Thanks Ladies!
Man, you're keeping me on my toes! Between weaning the paci and potty training, you're on the ball!
Once again, seme answer as the paci weaning. Have not tried yet and I don't know when I will. We did just buy a potty to put in the bathroom for him to sit on before his nightly bath. I'm not in any hurry to really start training, but I figured having the potty there might help him start to think about the idea. I did skim the chapter in Toddler 411 that deals with potty training and it told me that nobody in our family is ready for that yet!
Our son just potty trained about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I went out and bought two different books, a potty chair, a potty cover, and the potty hammock. I bought the potty chair about the time Chase turned 2...he wanted nothing to do with it until 2 1/2 weeks ago. I know that you want to get him started on it...but I am going to be completely honest in saying that potty training has nothing to do with us and everything to do with them. I am the biggest control freak...I have every part of Chase's day planned on a regular basis and it has been that way since he was born...We are home when he naps and we do not mess around with his routine..but seriously with potty training, I played absolutely no role in it. He did it all on his own...And that is exactly what another mother's doctor told her..You cannot force your child to even want to try something if they have no desire and are not ready.
As for books, I bought Its Potty Time and Toilet Training: A Practical Guide to Daytime and Nighttime Training. The first one was more for Chase. He wanted nothing to do with the book..and quite honestly, I learned nothing from the second one.
Chase is all about his potty chair. Has a lot of fear of the big toilets still. But I am so freaking amazed to be at this point.
I am not really anticipating him getting the hang of it yet, but I want to start reading up about it and see if I can get him interested. ?I was potty trained by 20 months. ?We have a potty chair that he will sit on and chill, but not without his diaper yet. ?Tonight he really wanted to sit on the big potty, but just to sit on the big potty, haha, so I held him there. ?I just bought "Toilet Training in Less Than a Day." ?Apparently is a book you'll either love or hate, and I think the first chapter or two asks questions to see if you kid is ready to do their method. ?It is a really intensive one day thing, so I'll read it and see. ?It seems like its one of those Babywise things. ?I loved babywise, so maybe I'll love their technique. ?We have a lot of big life changes coming up so either I try to start him now if possible, or we have to wait until after his 2nd birthday, which I know is a lot more typical for boys. ?Thanks for the recommendation.
We started potty training Lydia when she was 15 months old and she is now almost 23 mo. old and she is completely potty trained except for at night which and yesturday was the first time she woke up and she was dry so we are on our way to dry nights too. For those of you who "arn't in a hurry" or are comtemplating when to start. Now is the time...the sooner the better! It is so nice not to buy diapers and not have to carry a huge diaper bag around anymore. We didn't really use any books or anything. The first couple of times we sat her on the potty she loved the sound it made when she peed and how we made such a big deal about it...she wanted to go all the time. Anyway that was my experiance GOOD LUCK!
