Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Update. on High School Babysitter.. tell whatcha think!

so she just called me.. and she is 17 and the youngest kid she has sat for was 7years old.. hmmmmm i said she could come over Friday and we would hang out and see how it went.. but I know by 17 i had a ton of baby experience... this might be a deal breaker!

  • go with your gut. Everyone needs a starting point for experience ... if she doesn't seem mature, don't hire her!

(I know you know, it makes me feel better to say it)

  • I don't think I'd be comfortable leaving DD with someone who had no experience with babies. When I think back to how old I was when I started babysitting, I am shocked that people left me with their children. I was babysitting infants at 12 or 13 years old!

ya i thought i would at least have her come over. her bro works with me and said that she took the baby cpr class which is a plus so i will at least meet her. talking with her on the phone was funny.. oh high schoolers!

  • I agree with pp, go with your gut after meeting her and seeing how she is with your LO. You will know what is best at that point.

I was just saying this over the weekend!  I think I was 11 when I had my first babysitting job.

  • I hated the 1st teenager we had for DD, but the 2nd one has been with us for 3 years and is great.  We will miss her when she goes to college next year.  I would probably start with a younger teen if you can, so you get some use out of them before they grow up.
  • I'd say go with your instinct.  I would never have a high school kid babysit for DD.  I'm having a hard time leaving DD with my best friend who is 28 for a few hours, and she's the only person I'd trust.  I'd never changed a diaper in my life until DD was born, and most of my friends haven't either.
