Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Holy crap--DD is a big eater--help!

Our daughter will be a month old this week. I am EP. The past few days, DD has been eating a ton! She is eating 5-6 oz per bottle, and usually takes 6-7 bottles per day. When I give her less, she cries, sucks on her hands, and just seems like she is still hungry.

Should I keep feeding her this way, or cut her off? I am having a hard time keeping up with her demands--I usually pump around 30-35 oz per day.

Help!

Will baby #3 be another girl?

  • Why would you not feed a hungry baby?  I understand if you are having a problem keeping up with her...but at this stage it is too early to "cut her off" IMHO.

  • I know you said that you EP; were you ever able to put your daughter to breast?  Typically, the kiddo is more efficient at getting milk out then a pump.  That might up your supply a bit (even if she only feeds off of you a few times a day and you pump the rest)
  • Never restrict your baby! Always feed on demand, regardless of how much you may think it seems to be. :) Baby's are self-regulating and she'll let you know when she's had enough.

  • My DD is the same way and she is 5 weeks but after she eats all that food she vomits and she refuses the pacifier. The doctor told me that I was feeding her to much and try to give her an ounce of pedialyte instead of milk. I did that for a week and now she eats a normal amount.
