Just got home from the hospital, sorry that it took so long to get an update posted.
We went in for our followup u/s this morning (6w5d) to see if they could find our twins' heartbeats. I was in last Monday due to spotting/cramping, and was told we were having twins. I was 5w5d then, and they saw two gestational sacs and two fetal poles, but no heartbeats.
This morning, two fetal poles, two yolk sacs, two heartbeats! They're measuring 6w3d, and appear to be sharing a placenta. I am BEYOND relieved. I feel like it's now okay for me to read about twin things and actually get attached to the idea.
I'm still having some intermittent spotting (about once a day, when wiping) but everything looks to be just fine.
Thank you to everyone on this board that reassured me that it was just too early to see the hearts beating.. got myself all worked up over nothing. The tech said it looked as though the twins are sharing not only the placenta, but possibly the sac as well. I go for my NT scan at the end of July, and I'm assuming we'll know more then.
Again.. thank you for making me feel better. Positivity makes all the difference.

that's great, but DO NOT worry about the "sharing a sack" thing. not that you sounded worried, but um don't. it's too early to tell.
congrats!
