Easy catering ideas?

I am getting info together for the luncheon after Emmalee's baptism next weekend. I want to have everything prepared so all I have to do is set it out after the service and enjoy.

I have thought of sandwiches from Togos, and then fruit & veggie platters from Costco. I also thought of Chick fil a but they are closed on Sundays. What ideas do you have? Any idea is appreciated, and a "cool" or "neat" factor is really appreciated. I am out of neat ideas.

Re: Easy catering ideas?

  • We did a kabob bar... people assembled their own sticks, and then a few guys took turns keeping an eye on the grill.

Other than cutting the stuff up ahead of time, it's super easy and low key, and people enjoyed it!

  • We did pulled pork sandwiches - SUPER easy.  We just put the pork in the oven early in the morning and then put it out with rolls and bbq sauce.  Our moms did salads & side dishes, but you could buy them from a deli.
  • We catered BBQ, we had chicken, beans, and salad for everyone. It was nice since it was ready when we got home.
  • You could easily do a taco bar (cook the meat ahead of time and keep it warm in the crockpot...same with the beans). Then just set out all the fixings when you get home (tomato, salsa, cheese, guac, sour cream, lettuce, jalepenos, chips, nacho cheese, tortillas, shells, etc).

Or you could do a pasta bar...do some big baked pastas...you could even get them from a pasta place (Mary's Pizza shack, strings, etc).

     Pizzas and beer?

    Tea sandwiches?

lunch meat platters with make your own sandos...along with typical fixings.

  • I'm not sure if Sac has these places but there are Hawaiian BBQ places all over the Silicon Valley. I've had really good luck using them to cater. You just place your order the day before, pick it up, peel off the tops and serve. I usually macaroni salad, rice, chicken and maybe some sort of beef like short ribs.

It looks like the L&L chain is in your area. You might want to pick up a menu and check out the prices.

  • Oh - isn't there a pollo loco by you?  They have pretty good prices on catering.

  • Been thinking about this myself for an upcoming party...mexican, like a fajita or taco bar, side dishes, etc. There's also cool greek/med place in the bay area I might use...proabably something similar in Sac.
