Books.....I know it has been asked before!!

So I went to Powell's yesterday to get some pg books.  I remembered reading the posts about what to get but when I got there I was too overwhelmed with the hundreds to choose from.  I went ahead and got what to expect when you're expecting but was looking for something else maybe with more humor.  Has anyone read the gf guide to pg or something like that?  Thanks and sorry for the very repeated question!

Re: Books.....I know it has been asked before!!

  • I've read Girlfriend's Guide and Belly Laughs.

I'm also reading Your PG Week By Week.

  • The gf guide and Belly Laughs are both very good books and I would recommend them.  I bought what to expect, but I hate it!  I just can get into reading it.  It's such a snore.  I prefer your week by week pregnancy.
  • I liked your Pregnancy - week by week and girlfriend's guide was OK (she sometimes made me feel like she hated being pregnant).

I HATED What to Expect When You're Expecting: it was horrible. I don't get what all the fuss is about that one...

Momma to three boys: Henry - 4yo Alex - 18mo Jack - born 2/23/12 at 20w due to ruptured uterus (previa and accreta resulting in hysterectomy) He only lived here on Earth for an hour, but he will live in our hearts forever. m/c #1: sept '09, m/c #2: july '10
  • What is Belly Laughs like? It's it more about Jenny M. or actually a good pregn. book?
    Working on #2!
  • Okay it makes me feel so much better that I was not the only one who thought WEWYE was a complete snore.  I was really trying!!! I will check out those others thank you!!!

  • I love gf guide to pg. I actually am ok with What to expect, but even my dr has warned me to take everything with a grain of salt and be aware that it does tend to be alarmist.

  • I got the Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy and Baby Bargains. I started reading the Mayo Clinic Guide and I like it so far. Baby Bargains is more of a book to guide you to which baby products to buy. I fllipped through it and it seems like it will be helpful.

My sister's friend is letting me borrow What to Expect. I started reading it and it's a real snooze. A lot of the material doesn't even apply to me. There is a chapter on miscarriage that is unecessarily scary, even though they warn you not to read it if you have no problems (as if a paranoid pregnant woman like myself won't automatically turn to that section).

Ditto!  I found Safe Baby Pregnancy Tips by David Sopp HILARIOUS.

  • Belly Laughs was a total laugh out loud book..she talks about her pregnancy and it's pretty funny.  I suggest you read it if you want a good laugh.
  • I have a lot, because I'm always in bookstores.  I do hate WTEWYE also!  So condescending and full of lame puns.  I like From the Hips, but it doesn't have the comprehensive lists and month-to-month timeline.

    I also like Panic-Free Pregnancy.

  • For you: From the Hips

    For him: Daddy's pregnant too

Both are very informative, funny, and realistic.
