Anyone use the moby with a 20+ lb baby?

I haven't used my moby since ds was about 3 months old and 12 lbs.  Even then he would start to slide down and the wrap would loosen after awhile so it seems crazy that I would be able to wear him in it now that he is 21 lbs.  I've heard the moby d holds heavier babies.  I have a babyhawk but he doesn't care for it.  So does anyone wear their bigger baby in the moby?

  • I have.  I put DS forward facing in a kind of Joey hold but leave his feet out since he likes them to dangle and kick me or DH.  Confused

  • Does the fabric stretch a lot and do you have to keep adjusting it?
  • Yes, the fabric stretches since I only have the regular jersey one.  But, I wrap it pretty tightly to begin with that I don't have to readjust usually.  By time it might need to be readjusted DS is ready to explore and I'm ready for him to get down.
  • You'll probably be better off with a non stretchy wrap - even more so if it is woven.  That way it offers better support and you don't have to constantly adjust.

  • if you like the concept of the moby but want more support you could try selling it and putting the $$ toward a woven wrap (didymos, girasol, storchenwiege, etc) which will hold as much weight as you can handle-seriously. i've wrapped a 6y.o. and worn her around the zoo for about forty five minutes. there are great FSOT boards with good used prices on thebabywearer.com. babyhawks have pretty good resale value over there, too. you may be able to get something new and just clear out the things you don't use w/o even spending $!

Ah, I love the didys.  My friend has one and still carries her 3 year old occasionally in it on her back.  Super strong!

babyslingoutlet.com usually has some good sales on didys and other wovens.  I've used a stretchy wrap for a 20 pounder, but it's not my favorite way to travel.
  • DS is 15.5lbs, but I'm still using the Moby, and my Baby K'Tan - both are good. DS doesn't like my babyhawk either :-( and I paid good money for it.......
