Physical job

I'm about 9 weeks pregnant. I work a job where I have to carry 35lbs of equipment a few times a day, three days a week. I've been doing it for years so I'm fine for now (and my doc said I was fine) but I want to be out of the job before I tell everyone I'm pregnant.

So I've been trying to move over to another (less physical) position for a while and have been pushing for it now especially. In this economy I'm lucky to keep a job in my company. I've survived a round of layoffs. I'm nervous about telling my boss and dealing with my job.

I feel like I can't be really happy about the pregnancy until I deal with this job situation.

Re: Physical job

  • If it makes you feel any better, I work in a bank and had to move 50lb bags of coin regularly.  My doc said it was fine as long as it wasn't causing me pain.  I can understand wanting to switch positions but on the bright side if you don't make the move until later on, it shouldn't put any physical toll on  you.  Also, I got promoted at about 16 weeks and no one at the new branch I was going to knew when I was given the promotion and that all worked out fine too.  GL!

  • My job is also very physical, as well as on my feet all day. My doctor recommended I not lift over 20 lbs, but I had to if I wanted to continue working, I just made sure to be VERY careful and not lift w/ my back. As I got bigger my co-workers helped me out alot. I worked until I was at 39 wks.
