I have been using the football hold for feedings since my LO was born 5 weeks ago. He was born at 36 weeks and this was easiest because of his size. Now that he is growing, I realized that the football hold will be difficult as he gets bigger and tried the cradle hold this morning. It went well, mt nipples were a little sore, but they will probably adjust to the new position I hope. My biggest problem is that I can only feed usinhg the boppy pillow. How will I be able to feed in public? Any tips for me?
Re: Positioning and NIP
Practice at home without the boppy, but you can also rig up something to prop the baby in public, like covering the diaper bag with a blanket and using that. I used my knees a lot to get her in place, sitting cross-legged and keeping the knee with her head slightly higher.
Really, it just takes practice and experimentation, but if you're in a situation where your baby really needs to eat, trust me, you'll figure it out.
have you tried nursing with him in a sling or wrap carrier? That might help hold him in position when you're in public, plus it would give you some more privacy
When I NIP, I try to find places like the Macy's bathroom (ours has a little lounge area where I can sit on a couch to nurse) or I sit in the car (if the weather is cooperative), then I use the diaper bag as my "boppy" if needed.
