Sadie arrived last Wednesday, and the first thing we did when we got home on Sunday was to put a cloth diaper on her (KL0 w/ a Bummis cover). DH loves how much easier it is to grab onto her, LOL, and he keeps telling everyone how great the diapers are.
BUT, we already ran into a snag b/c the pedi wants us to put A&D Ointment on her at every change to prevent rash (she was getting a little red). Is there an EFF equivalent that'll work w/ CDs? Or if I put some oil into my wipe solution (currently water w/ a little bit of baby wash) would that be moisturizing enough? TIA!

Re: AW: Check out my newborn's fluffy butt! (PIP)
Very cute!?
?
I think pedis over rely on diaper cream. ?We hardly ever use any. ?There are some you can safely use with CDs. ?Or put a fleece liner or wash cloth so that the cream isn't touching the actual diaper.

i agree. i HATE diaper rash creme. i use lot of burts beez baby powder, its the best imo. your baby is adorable. how much does she weigh?
Aww, she is precious! ?Congratulations.
Ditto PP's. ?Diaper ointment is over "prescribed", although it can be necessary at times. ?I use burts bees and better butter cream (ordered online) and they both work fine with my CD's.
One thing you may want to try is using plain water for your wipes, for at least the first month. ?Their skin is so sensitive, it may be the soap in your wipes solution that is irritating her. ?I used plain water with a squirt of aloe for the first few months.?
Ooh, I like the aloe suggestion. Maybe I'll try that and pick up some Burt's Bees as well, just in case I need it. I just don't want to use disposables, even if it's only for a little while.
She's about six pounds now, so tiny! We're working hard to get her back up to her birth weight (6 lbs, 7 ozs).
She is so cute!
Mine waas 6 lbs 4 oz and she dropped weight too that first week, so I totally understand your concern.
I ditto previous suggestions to use a washcloth with water instead of wipes perhaps (we use cloth wipes, saves $$ and is easier if you CD).
Also - either use cornstarch powder which is safe for CDs or a CD safe ointment (I use Northern Essence Diaper Salve for Sensitive Skin and like it) or use any ointment with a liner to protect your diapers.
GL!
Congrats
Ive been told to never use any powder for fear of it getting in the lungs. On adults and infants.
Ditto on the plain water too..
me too. ?Even?cornstarch?scares me. ?For the sake of lungs and CDs?

Yes, I've read this, but I'm careful. I would be more concerned if LO were mobile and crawling around getting into things (like if she were to bang or drop the bottle and the powder clouds around her). But honestly, I'm not worried about this. And I'm a fairly risk averse person too!
Congrats - Sadie is adorable and I love her name too
I would just use plain water for now when you use wipes. You can also use some Alba unpetroleum jelly as a protective barrier - similar to A&D but safe for cloth diapers. I find it at Whole Foods. If you want something that will work even better, then check out Northern Essence Diaper Rash Salve - Sensitive Skin. We love this stuff but only use it at night or if DS gets a litte rashy. It's consistency is also similar to A&D but just a bit thicker.
We used plain water for the first couple of weeks and it was great. Switched to a homemade solution and she got rash, so went back to water until she was a bit older.
We have used Method diaper cream since she was born and it has worked great and hasn't been a problem with CDs.
BTW your LO is adorable!!
my lo had a little bit of diaper rash as well, I used california baby calendula cream and I would let him go coverless for most of the day (so I could feel when he was wet and change him immediately. I also got some fleece and made stay-dry liners. The rash cleared up in one day.
I had to use a&d ointment on my LOs circumcision, so I cut small bits of fleece to cover the area to protect my kl0s
I also agree with pps that ointment is overrated. BUT, when we do need it we have some from Northern Essence (ordered online) and for something creamier we use Aveeno diaper rash creme and you can pick that up just about anywhere.
Best thing for a rash is air though
She is so precious! Makes me miss my LO being so teeny tiny...
