Pregnant after a Loss

staying fit during pregnancy?

What is everyone doing to stay fit?

I told my self now that I'm into the 2nd trimester (and not as worried about loss) I will get back into my work out habits...with out overdoing it of course. Just wanted to see how everyone else is staying fit.

Re: staying fit during pregnancy?

  • I wasn't really allowed to do much of anything during first tri, but now that I'm into 2nd tri, I'm starting out slowly by walking. Doesn't sound like much, but if you could only see where I walk lol.

  • I was just told I can start exercising since we saw the heartbeat but I have not gone back to the gym and wont do that until I am out of first trimester. I have just been walking daily for about a half hour.

Yay! Congrats on being in the second trimester now!!

Second tri is when I started working out again, too. I've been walking, doing yoga, and doing light weights. It's a lot less than what I was doing pre-pg, but I don't want to over-do it!

  • During 2nd tri, I did yoga 3x per week and walked 3 miles 4x per week.  Now, I'm on bed rest, so no more working out for me.

  • My doc wasn't so concerned during the first tri since our previous loss was late.  So I continue doing step aerobics through about 22 weeks - slowly dropping the step height and arm movements until the last week when I didn't use a step at all.  But this pregnancy I have had hip pain so I had to stop aerobics and went to just walking for a few weeks.  But that still bothered my hips and wasn't much of a workout compared to what I was used too so two weeks ago I started water walking and it has been awesome.  Some resistance, some arm work, and weightlessness on my lower body.  I highly recommend it.

  • I had grand ideas about this (used to run 6 miles a day and do bootcamp style workouts).  I was so sick and tired during first tri, and then I ran a couple of times before 15 weeks but my back hurt so badly afterwards.  So now I power walk about 4-5 times a week for 4 miles and do yoga once a week.  I am a wuss now.....but I figure now is the time to listen to my body rather then push too hard.

  • i too did not do anything in first tri, and started walking hills 5-6 times a week in months 4 and 5.  in month 6 i had some hip problems, plus walking made me really cramp up, so i gave up walking.  now i am swimming about 5 times a week, but not lots of laps . . . basically just fighting waves in the ocean but it does get my heart rate up!

  • I am in first tri still, and I haven't changed a thing. I do pilates 2x/week and yoga 2x/week, I also walk my dogs a few miles a day. All of my instructors know that I am PG, so if I need something modified they tell me in advance. I figure they know what they are doing, and as long as I listen to my body then I will be fine.

    Good Luck!

  • I used to walk 4.5 miles (power walking) before pregnancy and then walk my dogs for about an another mile after that (slowly because my dogs are pains in the butt and pee every other foot).

But with my first m/c I started spotting on the treadmill and even though I know thats not the cause I am too paranoid to exercise like I used to. ?I still walk my dogs everyday ride an exercise bike for about half an hour. ?My OB thinks this is why I've gained SO much weight (I'm up about 23 pounds at this point) but I am not too terribly worried. ?I am going to start doing some pregnancy yoga dvds - I'd like to stay loose so that recovery from childbirth is easy!?

  • Enjoy working out during second tri!  I'm getting to the point now that I'm just tired again and motivation is not what it was....

I walk, do prenatal yoga, take a weekly weight lifting class, use the elliptical (but I have to take a pee break) and spend time in the pool.  I'm not much of a swimmer, but use the kickboard to do laps and am considering a water aerobics class.  The water is so relaxing and feels so good!

  • I forgot biking.  I bike a little too.  My cruiser is really comfortable because it is more upright.
