Breastfeeding

should the nest (bump, whatever) have an attachment parenting board?

i'm wondering if there would be enough people to create demand for it.  i know i usually come here to talk about AP topics like babywearing and cosleeping (and obviously breastfeeding Stick out tongue), as well as SaIF (my regular board.)  but i feel like maybe the AP mommies are spread out over several boards... wonder if we could all congregate in one place...?

just a thought.  what do you guys think?

  • I think it would be nice to have one. I would go there and post. I kind of lurk more than anything on the 0-6board because alot of the topics dont really apply to me and when I do post a ? it seems no one answers. It would be nice to find a "home". I do like posting on this board. I

this... I'm interested to know what this is.

  • Seriously, Gretchen??  You totally read my mind!!!  I was thinking this about 4 hours ago when I wanted to ask a babywearing question!  I looked, just in case I had missed it before, but didn't see one.  I think it's a good idea.

  • Definitely!

I've found that another good board to post AP related questions is the eco-friendly family board. Many of the women on that board practice AP.

Dr. Sears is a good resource for AP info.

Basically, it's a parenting philosophy that says that the best thing for baby is constant closeness to mom (and dad). It's sometimes considered a return to the "old school" method of doing things, the method that's been practiced for thousands of years across hundreds of cultures. Breastfeeding, cosleeping, babywearing, etc.

Dr. Sears takes care to stress that you don't have to be doing all of this to consider yourself AP. It's more a philosophy than a strict set of "must do's".

interesting. I guess we fall into that category.  I didn't realize it was a parenting style. thanks

  • I think it's a fabulous idea!!  I've tried to sort of "advertise" that I'm an AP mama (through my siggy and excessive posting about babywearing Stick out tongue) in case anyone has questions or wants to compare notes.  It would be great to have a board all about APish stuff!
  • huh. go figure. i guess I might be into attachment parenting without realizing it.
  • I think it's a great idea too - it seems like there are quite a few of us around.

  • I would be all over that board! In fact, I just started leadership training to be an API leader. So yeah, we're definitely an AP family!
  • I was juuuuuust thinking that not 24 hours ago...

  • Just a suggestion-when we tried to start a high-risk board it took FOREVER. The easiest way was to "report" your post. over and over.Good luck! I think that would be really helpful to a lot of women.

I just reported you Gretchen!  ;)
  • I think it's a wonderful idea for a board - I would love it!
  • I would live on an AP board! I think it's an excellent idea. On 0-6 there are a lot of different philosophies, most of which I don't agree with at all. I cringe every time I read a post that has "CIO" in the subject line. I'm lucky to have a local board full of APers to bounce things off of but would really enjoy a more national viewpoint. I've definitely found that moms who AP are more likely to not only extend BFing, but delay solids, alter the vaccine schedule, etc....all things that we've done/are going to do.

  • Yes, please!  Just last week I got yelled at about my bfing my 15 month old and sleeping with him.  The answers on the 12-24, let him CIO, wean him, and stop the night feedings.  Ummmm, ok.... Not...

  • I would live on an attachment parenting board. I love my home board but not a lot of people there practice AP. 100% what otc said..I would love somewhere to ask a cosleeping/sleeping question without having everyone tell me to just let my DD CIO. No thanks. Here's my support!

  • Oh and I mentioned this on my EFF reply but I'll throw it out here to..

If emailing or reporting doesn't work, we can all start posting on a local board that doesn't get a lot of traffic..hi-jack if you will. That usually gets the Bump Gods to make a new board. That's how we got Parenting After a Loss..we hi-jacked haha.
