I think we'll most likely not get the valances, because they are expensive! It would only be $189 for the sheet, bumper, and crib skirt. That's much more within our price range, but I love matching stuff!

I think you should do it, if you can afford it. :]

For me that seems like a lot of money for a child's bedding set. Heck, I don't even think I would spend that much on a bedroom set for DH and I. But as pp stated if you have the money go for it.
If you're like me at all, you'll want to change it up in no time and you won't want to have to buy new valances. ?I think the difference in the two prices is a lot to pay for valances... and I think you'd do just as well finding a solid color to match ?
DH would veto that in two seconds! We're a very thrifty family by choice so spending that kind of $ on any bedding (ours included) would be a no. And we plan on having many kids, so it would get used a lot. I'd shop it around, maybe you can find it or something really close to it for less. But if you have your heart set on it, and can afford it (retirement funds maxed out, no credit debt, and at least 6 months of living expenses in a savings account) then why not?

i would only consider it without the valances. it's a huge price difference. $189 still seem like a lot if it does not include the quilt- even if you dont plan on using it!
I wouldn't spend that much, but it's not my baby! I'm just going to make a skirt and a cover for the rocking chair pad that are "thematic." We're not doing any fabric window treatments, because they catch dust, and I really don't want any more laundry than I'm already going to have.

fwiw, we LOVE our set, but it was pricey. ?So we bought the bumper & quilt & sheet, but decided to do a plain crib skirt & plain curtains. ?That alone cut the cost by almost $150!?
I'd be wary saying you will use it for baby 2. You never know how bad baby 1 will destroy it (poop-pee-vomit). And, after all of that, it might cost too much to pay for the dry cleaning for all of that.
I'd go for value. Plus, after seeing it for 2 years or so, you might be bored with it!!
My husband and I were in the middle of the same dilemma a while back. There is a set that we liked that is over $250 dollars. The idea of spending that much money for baby bedding seemed ridiculous to me, but that is the only set that I really liked. I spent a lot of time thinking about it and I realized there is a lot in the set that I really don't need and that other non-set items may grow with our child better and be used longer. We really don't need the thick comforter here in Florida and I have heard breathable bumpers are better in this warmer climate. So I have decided to buy the fitted sheet, the matching blanket, and maybe a few extra matching items if needed to pull the theme together. I love decorating so I am having a lot of fun doing my own thing.
Re: Is this justifiable?
Get the set and then find valances elsewhere to match. You might even be able to make some, or maybe someone in your family can if you don't sew.

If you'll use it for baby #2, then do it
