So I went to the third largest Whole Foods

in the country today.

Oh merciful heavens. It is glorious. You can shop while walking around with a glass of wine. There are aisles and aisles of amazing organic and local foods, rows of chilled organic and local beer, an area outside where you can dine,  seven neighborhood-themed eateries, mix and match cookie and trail mix stations, express checkout lanes with a screen that directs you where to go, a bath-salt bar, a line of frozen children's food, a cosmetics makeup counter, a lounge area with free WI-FI, a stage for music and presentations, a coffee and beer bar, and tables overlooking the river outside.

It is 75,000 square feet of pure bankruptcy waiting to happen :P

Re: So I went to the third largest Whole Foods

  • Jealous.  The closest WF to me is over three hours away.  I'd probably get in trouble if I took a glass of wine to Kroger tomorrow and pretended it was WF, huh?

  • Wow!  I could happily get lost in that place.

  • This wouldn't happen to be in Chicago would it?  I used to shop at one in downtown Chicago.  Spent a lot of $$ there.

It is in Chicago. They just opened it in May, so it is brand new.

Did you go to the one on the Gold Coast? I never go there. Everything is even MORE overpriced.

  • And I bought organic animal crackers and bribed Lili with them on the bus ride home. Oops.
  • We drove by a WF today and a lady was pushing one of those half carts they have. DH said, "Look, WH knows that people can't afford a whole cart of groceries with their prices, so they just have half carts". It cracked me up and the WF by us is super lame. There is a better one further away, but it isn't worth the drive to me. The one you went to sounds like fun to go through!
  • I avoided the Gold Coast at all cost...unless we were going out for Sushi and the ex was paying with his Gold Card. Stick out tongue  I don't know if I ever told you that I almost married $$.  I fell in love before I knew he had money but I left when I realized that $$ was more important to him then I was.

But...about Whole Foods.  In the thread earlier someone said that they would rather shop at WF then TJs because of their philosophy.  In reality both are big business and WFs actually has had really, really bad business practices.  Neither are great to shop at.  If I could afford it I'd only shop at my local co-op so that I could really talk with my pocketbook.

But alas...I did not marry the rich guy.  I married for true love, lumps and bruises and all.  So I shop whereever I can to get the best bang for my buck.

  • I avoid the Gold Coast like the plague. I can't stand the stuck up snots that frequent there. Actually, WF in general is kind of... not my style. But it's the only place near me that sells hemp milk, so I went there. I was also curious about how large it was. It's an experience, that is for sure! I cannot stomach spending so much money every time we go grocery shopping, so it's a once and a while type of deal. I mainly frequent our farmer's markets when I can.
  • Hey...I have a coupon in my Blue Sky Guide for Hemp Milk.  I was just looking at it today and wondering if it would work for you in Chi town.  Hmmm...I'll have to check.  If you want it and it works you can have it.  We drink cow's booby juice here.

That's really nice of you! DH and I drink cow's booby juice as well (giggling), but Lili refuses to touch it, so I wanted to try out hemp milk. She likes it, so we'll probably continue with it.

BIP, but we love hemp milk here.  DH is the biggest fan actually.

  • I just looked and it doesn't say anything about where you need to use it.  I'll send them an e-mail to see.  If it's usuable in Chicago I'll send it to you.  I actually have a ton (like Amy's brand) and stuff that I will never use.  I'll try to get a list for you.  On a night when I haven't had 2 glasses of wine. LOL

not all Gold Coasters are snot :) oh and that WF is totally overwhelming. my head spun just going in there the other day.?
  • There is a brand new Whole Foods (2nd biggest one I think?) near where I work and it's amazing!  The closest one to where I live though is 40 minutes away though and I'm done with work until September 2010 so I guess it's good for my wallet that I can't get there that often!

I will say that everyone I met in Gold Coast was super sweet.  I just couldn't afford it. LOL

I won't :O) I must just have bad luck. I'm sure that there are nice Gold Coasters (I assume you are one of them?), but I always manage to meet the jerks.

  • omg sooooooooooo jealous.  soooooo want.  sniff.
