Weaning the paci

We have been weaning Eli off the pacifier for a while now. ?First I just decided that we were only going to use it in the house and for car rides. ?Then we stopped the car ride usage and he has done great without it. ?Currently he only has it for his naps and when I lay him down for bed. ?He will usually spit it out while hes sleeping, then at some point in the morning he usually picks it back up and has it when he wakes up. ?I decided this week to start to take it out of the crib after he spits it out, and then so he does not have it in the morning. ?Now, the last two mornings, instead of sleeping in until 8:30-9, hes been getting up at 6:30-7. ?I almost caved and gave it to him, but I want him to totally weaned with some time to spare by the time the baby is born, which is in like 2 months. ?Hopefully he'll start sleeping in again! ?I love my extra sleep in the morning, plus, I'll be losing that soon enough. ?Next step is to go down for his nap without it...

How have you ladies weaned your kids??

Re: Weaning the paci

  • You're my hero. I've been putting this off. Like Eli, Adam only uses it for naps and bedtime, but he's very attached at those times. And I know we need to do it because it can contribute to ear infections, which he gets once a month usually, but I'll probably give him another month or so before I begin the process. Either that or I'll cave and wait until he can undsterstand the "pacifier fairy" story...

  • It has been going pretty well, so far only taking it out after he falls asleep for his nap and after he gets to bed. ?He has been waking up about an hour and a half earlier than normal, so we have been getting up at like 7, rather than our 8:30-9:00 time. ?I'm hoping that as he adjusts he starts sleeping in more again. ?I'm scared to take it away all together, haha. ?I know its going to cause some crying instead of easy napping and easily going down for bed. ?My goal is to have to gone by the time Hannah gets here. ?We may regress when he sees her with one, if she needs one. ?Craziness!
