My baby girl is now 8 wks old and we're going to take her to the town's festival for fireworks tomorrow night. I was at the fest today and the bugs were eating me up. I'm worried they'll eat her alive. I don't want her to be miserable and screaming from mosquito bites. A friend suggested putting deet free bug spray on her clothes before putting them on her but not putting any spray directly on the baby. What about me though? Can I still wear bug spray considering I'll probably be holding her and nursing her throughout the evening? Maybe just put it on my legs and arms and not all over my neck and chest area?
Sorry if this question has been asked before. I haven't been on the Bump since my 3rd tri, so any help you can give me would be great. Thanks!
Re: 2 mo. old and Mosquitos! Need suggestions
Your baby is sooooo precious!
I'm struggling with the same issue living in the tropics, its been suggested to mix a drop of Citronella oil in her lotion but I'm not too sure how safe that is so I haven't done it, we just put a net over her stroller and PNP- spary on you should be fine as long as it isnt on your breast area is you plan to BF and it won't come in contact with her skin; put her in something footed.
We use the clip on!
California baby bug spray is citronella based and should not be used on children under 2 years of age. It is an irritant and there are some other stuff about it being researched that could be toxic on skin..... I vote for mosquito netting:)
As crazy as it sounds keep a dryer sheet around her and the bugs will stay away. A friend of mine does this and I thought she was crazy until she laid the bounce sheets on the blanket at fireworks and non of us on the blanket got bite but my DH and a few others who were in chairs got eaten alive.
