2nd Trimester

cloudy urine?

Anyone else have cloudy urine? I have just started noticing this..?? Just figured it was no biggie but I looked it up and it says it could indicate pre-eclampsia (due to dumping protein). I go in next week for our 20 week and will ask but thought I'd see if anyone else has had this..??

Re: cloudy urine?

  • Ive noticed the same thing. My next appointment I will be 27 weeks (July 6th). Should I mention it? They check our urine anyway so I'm sure they would notify me anyway if there was a problem.

  • I saw someone post on here about this once. They said it had to do with dehydration. I notice it the most in the middle of the night when I am not chugging down water. I naturally have high levels of protein in my urine (been tested since i was little) and it was never "cloudy" before pregnancy. I think it may have to deal more with dehydration, but that is just my 2 cents....

  • many times cloudy urine just means you're dehydrated.  drink more clear fluids and it might clear up.
  • It wouldn't suprise me if my cloudy urine had something to do with dehydration. I know I'm not drinking enough liquids period.
  • Hmm... well I feel like I've been drinking like a fish, peeing ALL. DAY. LONG! But maybe I need more...?

  • LOL as long as you are not peeing all night long like me that I wake up about 6-7 times a night sometimes more .... Surprise That might be dehadration like the other ladies mentioned...
  • cloudy urine does not necessarily mean you are spilling protein. If you are concerned, monitor your BP, if it is high, then you should be concerned with pre-e.
  • I notice this but only in the morning.  It is weird.  I am going to mention it to my Dr on Monday
  • Okay so I will mention it to the doctor on Monday. I did have a bp last night of 132/85, but is back to its normal 115-119/75.
  • I have also noticed this, especially in the morning or when I get up to use the bathroom during the night. I talked with my doctor about this and she tested me to be sure I didn't have a UTI (which I didn't). I have heard that cloudy urine can be caused by your prenatal vitamin. Basically, you should check with your doctor to make sure there's not something serious going on but try not to worry about it!!
  • I get it from prenatals.
  • As someone else suggested, it can also be a symptom of a UTI.  I had cloudy urine on and off for about 5 days before any pain set in, and I was drinking water like crazy.  I called the nurse yesterday after about 3 days of painful urination and increasingly consistent cloudy urine and now I'm going in Monday morning to check for a UTI.
  • For some women this is just the norm during pregnancy.  At nearly every appt my dr has said something about it, and I'm always sent down to labs.  Everything has been fine for me, so it's just the way my body processes things during pregnancy.

Definitely try to drink more fluids, to see if that's where the problem lies, but you may just be built that way.  Don't worry and mention it to your dr if you think there might be a problem.  That's what we're paying them the big bucks for!  :-)
