anyone have a lazy ovary?

so, it appears that this ivf cycle, my left ovary is doing all the work (producing at least 9 sizable follies), and my right ovary is on strike.  i don't recall this happening in previous cycles.  is this a permanent thing, or will my right ovary make a deal with management and stop it's strike?

Re: anyone have a lazy ovary?

  • This cycle is the first time in 9 months that my right ovary is doing it's job. Before it was always the left (when I did O).

  • I had something similar happen. The last four rounds with my new RE my left ovary hasn't done anything at all. The right one has responded three of those four times. This never happened with my old RE. My RE said he was somewhat concerned about this and we would look into it after this cycle is over. I'm not sure what he'll do though.

Did you RE seem concerned? I hope everything works out ok for you. Best of luck!

  • since my left ovary is producing at least 9 follies, the RE didn't seem concerned about my right ovary.  I'll have to ask after my ER tomorrow if they got anything from the right.

    it's always something, isn't it??!!??

  • Sometimes I think both mine are on strike!

During all of my IUI cycles my right never did much of anything and my left was the superstar.  However, during my current IVF my left didn't produce a single egg - it had 1 follie but there wasn't a mature egg in it.  We only got 5 eggs total at my ER with 4 being mature.  And all 4 fertilized via ICSI and I just transferred 2 yesterday.  I also have one to freeze.

So, I would think everything is ok and that if you have another cycle it might end its strike!

  • Me! - my lefty never does squat. I think I have lots of endo around it again (last lap was nearly 2 yrs ago).

  • My first fresh IVF, I had equal R and L ovaries. However, in the latest round, my R decided that it wanted a break. I think that they retrieved 8 from the L and 3 from the R. And this was after my acu spent some extra time stimulating the R. So based on my experience, I don't think that its a permanent thing. Good luck!
  • Totally!  My left ovary has been the one to ovulate all 3 times we've been monitoring.  Sadly, that's the one that had been stuck to the back of my uterus with endo and may have drifted away from my tube again.  ARGH! Come on righty!  What is it with lazy right ovaries?
