Working Moms

Midwest Working Moms!

I have a childcare rate question!

What would you expect to pay per day for childcare that comes to your home to take care of your 1, 3 and 6 year old (6 yo will be in school full time in the fall)?

I am a nanny looking for another family, and the last situation I had was great! The pay was sufficient, and now I have no idea where to begin as they are two entirely different situations.

I also would be bringing my son with me, and would be there three days per week.

Re: Midwest Working Moms!

  • Not sure about nannies, but I'll have to start that search, as we simply won't be able to afford our DD's center for 2 kiddos :( We're north of Chicago, and the center's rate is about $546 bi-weekly. I'm assuming we'll pay somewhere around $1,800 monthly for a nanny. We'll also be looking into a nanny-share as well to hopefully save some $.

  • humm. you have a really unique situation in that you will be bringing your son. I wouldn't even consider that in a nanny but I can tell you I wouldn't have paid as much. I pay my nanny $500 a week cash and I think it's a good deal. But then, I live in Detroit and most people working in this town this year have had to take pay cuts in order to keep their jobs so rates have gone down for babysitting/nannies as well.  I think it's hard to compare Detroit to other midwest towns because the economy is so bad here it is sad.

Yeah, I think $500 for 3 babies is a good deal.  I'm in Detroit too and know that I couldn't afford $500/week for my 2 kids.  We pay about $350/week for 2 kids in daycare.  So, for the convenience of having someone come to my home with their DC and take care of my 6 y/o for a few hours a week, I'd probably pay $400/week.

  • Everafter, that is a good deal. I just finished with a family of triplets and a singleton, and my son, and was making about that for a little over three days per week. I had never really thought about a pay decrease for bringing my son. Their children did not receive less care because I had a 5th child there.... anything over 3 is chaos anyway!
