Where to go for fireworks?

As I've mentioned several times,(so for those of you that remember I'm sorry) DH, DS, and I moved up here in March.  We're trying to find somewhere to go for the fireworks.  I understand Vancouver and Downtown have fireworks but I'd imagine that those are pretty crazy to get to and get out of.  Is there anywhere else to go?  Are those places as crazy traffic etc. as I imagine?  Is there a better place or location at those places to go?  Are there fireworks in any of the suburbs worth going to?  Thanks for your help in advance ladies, it's at times like this I miss being in the town I grew up in since I know everything about there =(

Re: Where to go for fireworks?

  • Watching the fireworks downtown from the east side of the river could be a lot less crazy.  I wonder if there's parking at OMSI or if it's too crowded down there.

  • OMSI is the perfect place. You can go set up some chairs anywhere along that side of the waterfront, and it won't be as busy as the west side of the river. I would go way early and claim our space, though. Not sure what else is right there besides OMSI but maybe you could find a neat place to eat at or something before hand.
  • Last year my husband and I took the bus to downtown to avoid being stuck in traffic.... well at least in our car.  The year before we took the max!  I would still prefer that!  Down town on the water front they have the Blues Festival (if you like that kind of music) and it is just fun to walk around during the day.  My husband and I reserved a table at McCormicks Harborside last year and ate and drank out on the sidewalk and were able to see the fireworks from our table very well!  This year we made a reservation for the Harborside as well as Portland City Grill.  We can't quite decide where to go.  :)

Vancouver cancelled the firework show this year.  I'm not sure where else to go.

Bummer!! We can see them from our house and so were going to stay home this year. grrrrrr...

Last year we watched the Vancouver show from Marine Drive (on PDX side of river). I have also watched the Portland show from the eastbank esplanade. It isn't great, because the show is further south, so you're watching at an angle. I'd go to OMSI instead. BTW, both places had bad traffic and it too forever to leave. Not sure we'll go out this year, but if we do, we'll probably tae public transit and stand on the Hawthorne bridge.

  • Oaks Park does a fireworks show every year, I think its sponsored by Pepsi.... its a lot of fun down there. Ride the rides, do a picnic and watch the fireworks at night!
  • Thanks ladies, we ended up staying home and setting off our own fireworks since we decided downtown might be a little too crazy.  Maybe next year I guess!
