I am an exclusive pumper and my supply is just tanking. When you started supplementing with formula - did you give formula for one feeding or did you start by giving some breast milk and some formula?
I'm just trying to figure out how to introduce formula.
Re: supplementing questions
Wow! I've never mixed the two in the same bottle, but I didn't know that formula would kill the bm.
When we supplemented, I breastfed first then gave DS to DH for a topping off of formula.
The lactation nurses at the hospital actually told me it was fine to mix both in one bottle. Where did you hear that you are not supposed to do this?
6. Breastmilk given with formula may cause problems for the baby.
Not true! Most breastfeeding mothers do not need to use formula and when problems arise that seem to require artificial milk, often the problems can be resolved without resorting to formula. However, when the baby may require formula, there is no reason that breastmilk and formula cannot be given together.
