Anyone in management (retail specifically)

I am on day 5 of maternity leave and going crazy.  I made the mistake of calling in today and my store is a disaster.

Did any of you have to deal w/ assistants/other managers that just did not get along and you were the glue that kept things together?  Now since my 2 do not get along/see eye to eye/work as a TEAM, my associates are coming unglued too.

I'm a GM and have been for 2 years and am having a hard time letting go of control of my building.  I've always been very work focused, so not working has been hard.

I'm hoping things are different after the baby comes (like I ignore work and enjoy leave) but I can't help but be stressed by things going bad at work.  We are coming into our busiest time of year and next years bonus can be made or broken on the next quarter of business.

Any advice/thoughts/comments?  Anyone who can relate and what did you do?

Rambling.......sorry!!

  • Ignore them...  If you keep worring your self about work you wont enjoy the time off.   YOu will regrate it.   I left for a vacation for two weeks my store fell apart.  But it was all fix able when I return.  You will be back sooner than you think.

  • As the GM are you these people's supervisor?  If so I would tell them to get it together, with you being out on leave if they are messing things up already they are really missing out on an opportunity to shine.  I am a GM, and the manager I left in charge of my stores did so well that he was promoted upon my return.  Before I left I made sure to let him know he was being handed a golden opportunity.

As for being less work focused when you return, I made it a point to rearrange my priorities before I even went on leave.  I know I would be miserable if I worked as much and as hard as I used to before I got KU.  The transition is hard but not impossible
