let me start by saying, i EP so it isn't a matter of being able to feed him when he gets hungry as i always have milk ready and DH can get up on the rare occasion that he doesn't STTN. it is more a matter of would i have to pump and dump my first (and BIGGEST) pump of the day?
i have maintenance insomina, and it is getting unbearable. my psychiatrist is more than willing to give me a script for it, but i am just nervous about taking it.
does anyone know the safest sleep medications while breastfeeding? does such a thing even exist? i am just a mess between not sleeping and anxiety. i am starting medicine for the anxiety too, but the doctor and i both feel that sleep would help a lot too.
thanks for reading.
Re: XP: sleep aids and breastfeeding. anyone take them?
Have you tried Benedryl? That usually knocks me out pretty well but is still generally considered safe for BFing.
There was a thread recently on my local AP list with a similar question - I'll see if I can remember any of the other answers.

When DH had cancer, they would give him Benadryl via IV to sleep, and told us that it is the same exact thing as Tylenol PM, but slightly more gentle for the tummy.
Benadryl is safe when BFing but doesn't work as a sleep aid for all. I took it once around 6 weeks PP because my allergies were so bad and I felt like utter crap and it hurt to wake and feed DD I was so drugged, but she didn't react in any manner.
Sleep is imperitive to be a good mother. I hope you find a solution, and don't fear taking it. You can't be good to anyone if you don't take care of your necessities first. Best to you!!!
