transition to daycare ? - 3-mo-old

Did you (or are you planning to) use some transition days/weeks for your 8 to 12-week old when going back to work full-time?  Daycare is a center in case that matters.

Not sure if I should plan a week of half-days or just drop him off Monday morning for the whole day/week.

 Thanks.

  • The only real transition I did was going to hang out at the daycare for an hour or so the week before I went back to work.  And then I started work on a Wednesday so he only had a half week to start.  That was as much for my benefit as his, and I recommend it.  We had a tough transition to daycare (at 4 months), but I think it would have been hard no matter what.  I don't know how much difference half days will make when they're that little.

  • I started back at 15 weeks on a Wednesday, which really helped I think.  That day was a total wash - I got here at 10, left at 3 - I was barely here.  Th & Friday were better.  I had planned to work the next week as a short week, but DD got sick on Tuesday - so I ended up working a half day that day and Wednesday.

I would save your time off if you can, just b/c you never know when they will get sick or when you really will need to take time off.

  • I just dropped Ds off on my first day back at work. He was fine. At that age I think they're pretty open to new people and places.

  • I took him for an hour and played with him in the room the week before he started. Then these first two weeks have been short weeks. Honestly after the first day where he didn't sleep well he has settled into the room well.
  • We started at 10 weeks.  I started DD on a Monday and I started work on Wednesday.  That way I took her partial days on Monday and Tuesday.  That allowed me to run some errands I needed while she was there before going back to work and deal with her being there :-(

DD started day care at 3 months - we dropped her off on Monday morning.  She didn't have any problems at all.
  • DD is starting next Tuesday. We went in last week to discuss some of my final questions. She and I went again today to drop off her supplies (extra clothes, diapers, etc) and go over her schedule.

I go back to work on the 15th but she won't be there the whole day unless I have an out of town meeting. I work from home, DH works from home 2-3 days/week so she will rarely be there for a whole day.

I have some obligations next week that I need to get done while she's there so I will get alot of stuff done before I go back to work.
