What do you gals think of William

nn Liam? ?Big bro is Benjamin. ?Is it too common? ?THanks. ?Mns would be either

?William Edward

William Lemuel

William Samuel

?

Also Benjamin's mn is Nathaniel, two very biblical names, should we go with one of the biblical mns to match a bit more? ??

Re: What do you gals think of William

  • That was my dad's name :) Middle name was Lyle. I was never this huge fan of Lyle in itself but the name flowed and I see you listed Lemuel already. Also......I can't say I enjoy reading nor saying outloud the name Lemuel...........

I like William Edward - but that's kind of a long name.  I love William. One of our top boy names is John William. We'd call him Liam. I think Liam is kind of popular right now, but William is such a classic name. It never really goes in or out of style.

I like William.  It's a nice, distinguished and classic name.  It's also a family name of mine, so I may be biased (William is my dad's name, cousin's name, and great-grandfather's name).

liam's a cute nickname, though i never thought of it as a nickname for william until i came onto the nest.  i mean, i get that liam is the last part of william, but i'm used to will or bill as nicknames for william b/c of my dad.

william edward flows really well.  i don't think you need to go with a biblical middle name just because your other son has a biblical first and middle name, but if you want to, i suggest: james, david, john, adam, joshua, jacob, and abram.

  • Love William, although prefer nn Will.

Of your list, I like William Edward best.

  • I like William Samuel a lot. William is probably my fav classic name, but we have a lot of Williams in my family so it's a no go. ?I'm not a fan of Liam. I much prefer Will. I agree that a Biblical middle name would sound nice with your sons name. Benjamin Nathaniel and William Samuel definitely sound like brothers. Nice choice!
  • I love the name William!

I don't think you have to go biblical just because your first son has a biblical mn. On your list I really like William Edward, William Samueal is so-so and I really do not like William Lemuel (makes me think of a lemur)

  • I love these names!  not big on Lemuel, but the others are great.

  • Absolutely love it.

William with the nn Liam is one of my top boy's names.

ETA: Oh, and I like William Edward or William Samuel.  I don't think the nickname needs to be Biblical, unless you are Catholic and you're required to have a biblical name for baptism? (but in that case, don't saints' names count also?  I'm sure there's a saint william somewhere)

  • I think William is great and like nn's Liam or Will.  I like mn Samuel out of your list, and really DISlike Lemuel.  It just has too many cringey associations--lemming, lemur, muel (I guess the emphasis in Samuel keeps this one from coming up with that name...)  It just reminds me of words like "phlegm"...needless to say, not very appealing:)  Good luck, I like all the rest a lot!
  • William Edward.
  • So...I love the name William Edward. Both are family names for us though, which may be why I like them so much.

What I think is interesting is how popular "Liam" is for William now. One of my friends named her son that a year ago thinking it was really unique, and I see it popping up all over now.

  • I like William Samuel. Also like the nn Liam.
  • I love all of those old English sounding names (William, Henry, Alastair, James); so, I think it's great!  The nn Liam is one of my faves!  Out of your options, I really like William Edward.  YesYes
  • I love it! DS is William Austin. We used it because it's DH's and FIL's first name but I do like it. It's classic and strong. I love the nn Liam as well.

William Edward sounds very nice. :)

  • Love love love the name William. DS is John William and we call him Will.

I like Samuel and Edward for mns.

  • If we have a boy, he will be William, and we will only call him Liam.  William is DH's name and his grandfather's name.  It's a good, classic, solid name, but I like that Liam gives it a little different identity.  Besides, with DH being called Bill or Billy, and DD is Lily, we really couldn't have a Will or another Billy!

Yes, I think William is a little common, and Liam is climbing the popularity charts.  But we've settled on it regardless.  It kind of bugs me to use a "common" name, but at least I know it is classic; I really don't like trendy names, especially for boys (Jackson, _-ayden, etc.).  On your list, I like Edward or Samuel.  I'm just not familiar with Lemuel.
