We are still struggling with getting DD to drink out of a sippy cup but feeling like she is a little behind from some other posts I have. When should she be completely off a bottle? Should we start offering her milk in her sippy cup?
DD has not had a bottle since she was 1yr. 1week old. We went cold turkey and got rid of the bottles and she did fine. She never really liked sippy cups so we went straight to a straw cup and she really likes those.
.... We're still giving a before bed and a first thing in the morning bottle. In between she uses sippies though. I had her weaned to only a sippy but then she started completely refusing it and so I gave her the bottle back.
It just wasn't a fight worth fighting at this point and everything says anywhere between 12-18 months is fine. DD was a super picky eater so anything I could get in her, milk included, was important.
That and we had so much change going on: a lot of traveling, moving!, and then my mom being here for a month, DH and I being gone a weekend, my mom leaving, etc... I know you're not supposed to switch them over (comfort thing) when a lot of changes are happening, so we wanted to wait until everything settled back down.
Now I'm getting ready to switch her cold-turkey, but she's doing it on her own so I don't even need to worry about it I really think kids will do most stuff on their own when they're ready (to an extend of course). We haven't had a problem yet! Just give them the opportunity, talk it up, and when they're ready it'll happen.

we hung onto the bedtime bottle for awhile, but mostly bc she didnt really drink enough milk during the day. After 15 mos appt, we officially got rid of them all. She is a great eater, but still not the best drinker. Some days she does better than others. But she doesnt sit and drink a whole sippy of milk like she did a bottle, she sips here and there.

DD got rid of her pacifier 2 weeks before turning 1 and got her rid of her bottles by 2 weeks after turning 1. We did it cold turkey one weekend and it went great. She had already been "trying" sippy cups so I just refused to give her anything else and she has been sipping ever since. You have to decide if you want to do it cold turkey or one bottle at a time. Whatever you are comfortable with. I would however definitely offer the milk in the sippy. She may surprise you and be ready. I was shocked that my DD could use a straw from a juice box because I thought she was too young. I just gave it to her and she did it now she loves it.
we just finally got DD completely off the bottle this week and it was a little less painful than i thought it would be - prior to last month we had tried with various sippy cups but just didn't find the right one...now we use the munchkin cups and the transition was easy...so 18 months for DD although we started at 14 months.
