need suggestions on cribs

My DH and i have been looking for cribs and we find one we like but its like 500.00 or more!! (it may just  be me but i thought 500.00 for a crib only was kinda exspensive)Any one already buy there crib they love at a good price? We are looking for a converter brib that is sturdy and in a dark wood!! TIA

Re: need suggestions on cribs

  • $500 is not too horrible but it's a little bit more than ones you can find out there.

We went with the Baby Cache Heritage Lifetime Convertible Crib at BRU, it was $399 and is gorgeous, solid wood, converts to toddler and full bed.

  • It really depends on the crib and the style you looking for if $500 seems like I lot. I am getting the Munire Essex in Cherry. It's about $399.
  • $500 for a converter bed isn't bad in my opinion if you love the bed.  We are getting ours from restoration hardware.
  • Da Vinci has a few really nice collections that are available in dark wood, even black.  They aren't highly priced either.

  • Obviously, if it's one you want to convert then you plan on keeping it for a while, so I'd spend $500 for a quality one before I'd spend $300 on a low quality one.

That being said, we are spending $400 on the Bonavita Peyton convertible crib.

Munire was our first choice, but their dressers were a little out of our price range.  We found Bonavita to be a good compromise betweeen quality and cost.  Not rated quite as highly as Munire (but still rated well), and the dressers/matching pieces are more affordable.

According to Baby Bargains Da Vinci cribs are made from MDS and not solid wood. I liked one from the initially, but then we decided against it.

  • BRU is having a sale this weekend where you can get the Sorelle Tuscany collection for 799 (that is the crib, changing table/dresser combo, and drawered chest).  The crib by itself is 329.

  • Is that instore only?  I didn't see it on the web....
  • we wound up going with the munire majestic line, but the baby cache line at BRU was our second choice.

we just figured by the end of it, we weren't spending THAT much more for what we wanted, only like $250 or so, and hopefully this will be his furniture for the rest of his life, so....

plus, the store in town that sells munire is running a 10% off sale for the month of july, so we took full advantage of that, & wound up getting the convertible crib, double dresser (instead of the combo), toddler rails, full size bed rails, crib mattress (colgate 2 in 1), AND the changing pad for about $1500.  you can't really beat that!

if you have a locally owned baby furniture store, you might want to go in there & see if you can wheel & deal with them.

  • diva741 - is this an in store sale?
