Your Baby Can Read

Anyone have experience with this or know anyone who does?  My friend's 3 year old asked her to teach him how to read and as she is an engineer by training, she's not quite sure what to do.  Or if you have any suggestions for her, that would be great, too.

Re: Your Baby Can Read

  • I'll be interested to see if anyone does. You can start as young as 3 mos with the program. I am planning to try it unless I hear some really negative comments.

  • I was tempted to buy it since it looks like it really does work but it's kind of pricey so I haven't yet.
  • I guess my question is why do you want your baby to read?

So many academic concepts etc are pushed down so young and there comes a point when things do not become developmentally appropriate.

    Kids need to be kids.

I don't want my baby to read - I was asking for a friend how has a 3 year old who wants to read.  I think starting something like this at 3 months old as the program claims or even 2 years old is ludicrous.

I agree that kids need to be kids, but I also think that if you have a 3 year old who really wants to read, you probably should do something as not to discourage him, but do it in the right manner so you don't do any harm.

  • Sorry fx- I didn't mean to come across as snarky. Smile

I just see so many parents push push push and sometimes it worries me, ya know?

I agree if he's 3 and interested then by all means go for it.

Runnerwife - sorry if my response came across as snarky, as well.

I will admit, though, that this is one of my bigger fears for raising kids - knowing the fine line between the right amount of encouragement and challenge and pushing too hard.

  • Maybe she should try teaching her letters and the sounds they make
