This is the first grandchild for ILs and the names they are throwing out make me want to scream. For example, for my FIL "Daddy Danny" uh NO there is only one daddy and that is my DH. MILs name is not great either. So we plan on having dinner with them tonight and I am sure the name issue will come up. I need ideas and fast! Thank you!!
Re: What are you caling the GrandParents
My mum- Gramma
Step-dad- Poppop
My dad- Grandpa
His mum- Gram
His dad- Pap
Well, we have kind of a confusing situation-my dad is polish, my MIL is polish, my FIL is not, My mom is not, so we might do some polish (Bobci grandmother for MIL and Giadic (Dziadziu) Grandfather for my dad..)
Or...we might just see what baby ends up saying! No one has said anything! Thank goodness! And, luckily, my parents and Inlaws are not the type that are like "We are too young to be grandparents!"
My parents are Gram & Granddaddy -- it's what they already are to my nephew.
MIL suggested "Mom-Mom" for herself, which I nixed immediately. I think she'll be "Grandma."
FIL will probably be "Grandpa."
We really haven't discussed serious names but I jokingly told my mother that she will be called Granny Lu (she is having issues with becoming a grandmother-she doesn't think she is old enough)
MIL once referred to FIL as Grampy, but I think she just picked that one out for him. I can garranty he won't want to be called that.
My Mom = Mammy
My Dad = Pappy
DH's Mom= Grammy
DH's Dad= Papi (yes like ortiz)
i had this issue with my mom-i told her our child would call her whatever the child figured out. it happens to be grammi. my dad was grandpa but she can't prounounce it so it comes out "bapa" which is cute. dh's parents didn't care and they are grandma and grandpa. for some reason my mom didn't want to be "grandma" even though she was on my for years about having a grandchild. so i would say "you can ask to be called this or that, but eventually our child will decide what you get called."
Grandma and Grandpa on both sides.
my parents - Grandma and Poppy
DH's parents - Grams and PawPaw
MIL is first time grandparent and has requested to be called Mimi, just like her kids called her mother.
My parents are used to being Nana and Popa, but they are now divorced and mom is remarried. My neice has decided to call him "Happy John", instead of the suggested "Pappy John". Maybe w/ this one, we can correct the situation so the poor guy can stop wondering why she calls him that.
For my parents, who are already grandparents since my brother has two little boys, we call them Noni (non-eeeee) and Nono (non-and an oooo sound like in rooster). It is what we called my grandparents, who are Italian. Nona is another popular one in the family.
?
My husband's parents want to just be called Grandma and Grandpa... or Gram and Pap if we need an easier version.?
my mil and fil have odd names they want to be called, and i can't ever remember them...
so unfortunately (?) i will refer probably to all grandparents as grandma and grandpa... i had two "grandmas" and two "grandpas" growing up... and I never got confused, so i don't expect any less from our son. if he wants to call them something else, that is completely fine. but i'm not going to stress out about remembering the silly names they keep coming up for themselves....
I already have nephews and they call my mom-Nana and my dad-Papaw and stepdad-Papa.
It will be first for MIL and she wants to be called Nana Pat.
working on this too, but my sister's parents go by
Grandpa - "Chickie", sounds crazy, but apparently it was a family Pittsburgh thing and "Madr-ay" They wanted fun names. And Chickie has stuck like gold - very cute actually.
My parents are Grandmum and Pop Pop
DIL's: Nana & Grandpa
Tell them to come up with a fun name that reflects them. My own Grandma's last name was Trymbiski, but I grew up thinking she was Grandma Tea (because she'd yell to put hte kettle on whenever we showed up - and gallons of tea she drank).
Definitely no to the "Daddy Danny" weird.
My parents will be Grandma and Grandpa, just like both sets of my grandparents.
We're not sure about the in-laws, but I believe it will be Nanny and Papa. That's what my husband called both of his sets of grandparents. I'm not certain, but this may be a "southern thing" ... they're from VA. (I'm an ignorant girl from WI and had never heard of either). The only exception may be my MIL ... her sister is called Nona by her grandkids since her mother is called Nanny.
My parents are Nonni and Pop to my nephew.
DH's parents are Grandma and Poppa to their other two grandkids.
Our names have long since been established.
Granddad & Mimi
Gran & Bobby
Grandma & Grandpa (mine)
My mom - grandma
My dad - grandpa
DH's mom - abuela
DH's dad - abuelo

Grandma and Grandpa. My in-laws are divorced and I never though much on what we would have DD call my step FIL since my DH did not grow up with him. Probably just Grandpa Tom. My niece calls my FIL "Pizza Guy" since he's rarely seen by the family and used to own a pizza restaurant. Everyone else calls him "Chico". He'll probably insist on that for our DD as well. Whatev. BTW, anyone else's DD going to have a raging hippy as a grandfather?
Great-grandparents, which are my maternal and paternal grandmothers, get their first names lumped in, as in "Grandma Julie".
Our situation is complicated. Both my parents and DH's parents are divorced. And of course, all 4 are remarried. So, our DD will have eight grandparents (and she is the 1st grandchild for all 8). On top of that, there are also 7 great-grandparents.?
This is what we have so far:
Great-grandparents (my side)- Mima & Papa, Mimi & Papop
Great-grandparents (DH's side)- Gran & Grandpa, Grandma
My Mom & Step-dad- Grammy & ?
My Dad & Step-mom- Papa Steve & Gigi
DH's Mom & Step-dad- Nana & ?
DH's Dad & Step-mom- ? & ??
?
My parents-MeMe and Pappy
My MIL-not sure yet....she wants to be called Mawmaw but thats what our grandparents are called "mawmaw and pawpaw" (all of them)
My FIL and step MIL-Gran and Pop
I also like Lolli and Pop
My aunt's grand children call her "Honey"
Prior children beforeus have already chosen, but we will be using mammy and g-daddy (i like this one it seems cool...) and also granny and papa
My parents- Momo and Papa
In Laws- Grandma and Grandpa
Both of our parents are already grandparents so this was a non discussion for us. My husband's parents are Gramma & Grampa. My Dad is Gran-Pap (just like my Gran-Pap, who recently passed away) and my step mom is Gramma Vana.
