what do I need for the beach?

we rented a house in seaside for a week starting on the 11th, woooohooo! but, what do I need? I'm trying to be minimal yet make sure I've got everything. besides all the usual kid stuff, any tips for beach stuff, travel stuff, etc.? I just wanted to ask now so I've got all of next week to make sure I've got everything or purchase new things if needed. we've got a pool too but I think we're good on pool stuff. also, if we get a beach tent, how big of a beach tent do you think we need? any suggestions?

Re: what do I need for the beach?

  • HERE was a post I'd responded to a while back with some suggestions. I'm really torn about buying a beach tent. We'd end up getting one of the big easy-up ones for $90 at Walmart. I just can't decide it he'd actually stay under it or not and if it would be worth the trouble or not. Not sure about where you rented, but some places are also prohibiting the larger tents like what we're thinking about getting.

  • I didn't use a beach tent because we are not beach-y people. ?An hour tops. I actually hate the beach. ? The sand, you know...ugh. ? You know what, maybe I shouldn't even reply. ? ??

But for the pool, I had her wagon to get her there and her pool float-y sea-horse thing. ? ? Hats and sunscreen. ? ?Buckets and shovels. ??

    Have fun! ??

  • We always use a beach umbrella instead of a beach tent. Easier to set up and really seems to provide better shader - plus it's not a pain to move in and out of like a tent.

I'm getting so jealous hearing about all the beach vacations! For the past 5 years, I've gone for a month each summer, but I only get to go 5 days this year cause I'm working - boo!

I'm sure Finn and Riley will have a blast! Have fun!

We have the Sun Smarties Beach Cabana tent from One Step Ahead.  It is awesome, but they sell out fast and they're already gone for this year.  Colin napped in it last year and played in it this year and it's easy to set up.  We just rented chairs and an umbrella when we were at Rosemary Beach....more expensive yes, but it was ours for the day and we didn't have to worry about lugging all that stuff to and from the beach.  Take lots of sunscreen, water, snacks, toys, etc.  I got a few new CDs to listen to for the drive and some new books to keep his attention.  Have fun!!
