Ok...so we stayed at my parents house for the last week. They use paper plates & napkins or paper towels for nearly every single meal... just to have less dishes to wash (no automatic dishwasher). They have Correll plates & glass glasses. We ate outside one night (hotdogs & s'mores) and they even used styrofoam cups!!!
YIKES!!! I couldn't keep my mouth shut about it, but no one seemed to care regardless of what I said.
I ended up serving myself on the regular plates & glasses and just washing them myself because I felt so guilty about using all that paper stuff. It was hard enough that DD was in sposies all week.
Re: my parents = EFF nightmare!
Wow!
Until I came to the nest, I had no idea some people used paper plates in their homes. ??
11 months
I know! We only keep them on hand as hurricane supplies down here!
Oh - and I should also mention that my mom had no issue throwing her styrofoam cup in the fire!!

My mom is the same way. When the whole family is together she will use paper plates and plastic cutlery to have less to clean up after. I can understand if she's at the beach but at home it seems wasteful to me. I never say anything because I would 100% be the only one to care and then I would be the only one to do the clean up afterwards if people said "Ok, lets use regular plates". Lame, but I don't want to wash up after 17 people by myself. It would be one thing if others pitched in but I don't think they would if I was the one who insisted, you know?
I am bringing out CDs to my mom's house. No idea if she'll let us use them or not.... if she won't let me wash them there I will have to use disposables - we don't have enough for 5 days and I'm not up for hauling cloth laundry three hours in the car after it sits for 3 days before that.
Sounds like my mom's house too.
She makes fun of my "real" glasses and my need to use "real" dishes & flatwear. Add in the cloth napkins, and I always hear how I'm going to make it impossible for my future DIL's to live up to my standards. And then she calls me a show off.

I think it's a personal choice in your own home. And only because I hate hearing snide comments about my choices.
