Clicky Poll - Cat question?

There is a cat that showed up on my front porch 2 weeks ago.  I have not petted the cat, fed it, or done anything to try to get it to stay.  I have not tried to scare it off, beyond yelling at it to go away, but it will not leave.

It is a nice cat and I think someone dumped in the forest behind my house.  I am very allergic to cats, but I can't stand to see pets go uncared for.   I cannot keep it in my house, only as an outdoor cat. I live in the city, but have a 40 acre forest behind my house and a small yard and a front porch that is covered when the cat could be out of the rain.  I could make a bed for it with a heating pad if it was very cold (It isn't often.  I live in Atlanta.)

I have ask everyone I can think of, and a lot of strangers, if anyone wants a cat.   I have been told that the likelihood it will be killed at the human society is high.

What would you do?

  • I'd try finding it a spot with a shelter or rescue.  It might be hard to find a spot right now though because it is still kitten season.

  • I voted other....I'd contact the local no kill rescue league and see if they'll take him/her.  I'm highly allergic to cats too, so I don't do cats...inside or out.

  • We had te same thing happen to us about 4-ish years ago.  Except...my DH was giving it dog food when it would wind around his legs in the garage.  My oldest DD came over one day (late Nov and snowing) and said you can't make that cat stay out there!  My DH said it can't come in!  Well, they ended up taking it to the vet and found out she was approx 2 and had been spayed.  Hmmm.  We took her in...gave her a flea bath and got her declawed (we have leather furniture).  She is the BEST cat ever.  We named her Sassy because if you walk in a room she is in she will meow.  She will also do that when she walks into a room we are in to announce her presence.  She does "act" like she is going to take off sometimes.

If "your" cat does not try to get into the house when you open the door I'd just take her/him to the vet, get it fixed (if necessary) and have it checked out and make a home for it outside.  They are great at keeping mice and even some bugs away.  lol
