Mobiles and those other things

We've never used a mobile and I'm starting to wonder if  DS is missing out on something.  We have the older version of this and he seems to think it's ok.  I read about babies staring at their mobiles and being so in love with them- do you think a 7 month old would enjoy one?  Or just be pissed he couldn't grab it?

BTW, I was reminded about this question after reading Lyndsay's blog.  So sweet...

Re: Mobiles and those other things

  • DD has never had a mobile or anything remotely entertaining in her crib. I kind of went with the Ferber/Healthy Sleep Habits recommendations of minimal distractions to sleep. If she's in her crib, she's supposed to be sleeping, that's it.

  • We have a mobile and he loves it, but only while it's moving/playing music. He could care less about it if it's not on...and it's one of the ones you have to wind up to get it to play, so I have about 2-3 minutes of happy time watching the mobile. I usually only turn it on if I have to pee - perfect amount of time for that! ;)

Ditto Mrs.Rosie - ours says only intended for use until 5 mos.

  • I'd skip the mobile and get one of those projection thingies. Like this twilight turtle.

Ya, DS doesn't really follow this rule.  At all.

I agree about the toy thing, though, and I didn't realize they were for smaller babies.  Makes sense, though.  I really like the projection thing- where do I find something like that?  BRU? Target?

DD would LOVE that turtle.  She probably wouldn't sleep, but she would love it.

MrsRosie- where did you get the white noise thing with projection?
  • i don't think your dc is missing out!  i come from the same line of thinking as taytee.  that is a wonderful book and it has totally worked out well for us 2 years later :)

BB&B.  I think it was $29.99.  It's the Homedics Lullaby Sound Machine.  The little disk stopped spinning last week and I walked into BB&B w/o the receipt and walked out with a new one 5 minutes later.  It was cool.

ETA: Correction - it is $19.99

I was there yesterday and picked up one. So far, he seems to at least enjoy it, though it hasn't helped his sleeping all that much.
