Books in the crib=FAIL

DD loves her some books and yesterday I put two in her crib at naptime (at the bottom, by her feet) hoping she would wake up from her nap and "read" for a little while before calling for me.  Instead, for an hour and 10 minutes after I put her down, she was still laying on her stomach in her crib reading even though she was exhausted.  I went into her room, took the books out and told her she needed to nap.  She cried for about 30 seconds and fell fast asleep. *sigh*

How do you leave books for them to read?

  • Joseph doesn't get books in the crib. He loves to read, but he's also a dedicated confetti maker.

  • I don't have a suggestion but the fact that she was laying there reading is so cute because my DD doesn't do that and I wish she would.

It was totally cute - I wish I took a picture of it.  But it made my heart break to take the books out of there!

  • DD loves reading books before she goes down for her nap, but then she 'cleans out her nest' before falling asleep by flinging them out of her crib. I tiptoe back in after she's fallen asleep and put two or three at the foot of her bed for when she wakes up. :)

  • DS did the same thing so I stopped giving him books for nap time.  I would give him books for the morning when he woke up though.  When I went in to check on him before I went to bed I would put a few books on the corner of the crib.

Otherwise maybe you could get a small shelf to put next to the crib and put books on it and she can reach for them.  Only problem is she may do the same and get them before going to sleep.  Sorry.

  • We can't do this.  Once I woke up to "Book!  Book!" and had to read "One Oogly Eye" at 4am before she would go back to sleep.  Good times!

  • wow! I can't believe she loves books so much. My DD likes books but wont sit there by her self for 30 minutes reading.
