Yeah, it does seem a little like beating a dead horse- how many years is really necessary- but honestly police corruption is a huge problem and I think it's good that they've taken such a strong stance against it!
Wow, they're definitely trying to use him as an example. He was fired and kept directing officers to steal + worked with other drug dealers. He must have really pushed the limits. Most of the time, they let crooked cops like this go without serving time. Its probably the reason they fired him back in '05. But he insisted on *being shady*
If you have enough cops doing that, no one would have faith in our "to protect and serve" mantra. That's why he got such a harsh sentence (imo)
that is crazy... wonder if they are using him as an example???
as someone who lives in Memphis, I can just about assure you they're making a big example out of him. this has been a big ongoing investigation, with MANY officers being arrested for taking bribes, stealing drugs & money out of evidence rooms, and it goes downhill from there.
i'm just happy to see a local judge not give a mimimal sentence for once. we have major issues with criminals getting thrown in jail, then they're out in 6 months, a little harder than they were before. IMO, this is a step in the right direction.
the other step in the right direction is the fact that our completely inept mayor, who has been in office for SEVENTEEN YEARS (seriously, he was elected when i was a senior in high school. i'm 34 now) resigned last week.

I can see that as a possibility.
