Clomid - effects and duration of use

I've seen several people here talk about how clomid should not be taken for very many cycles.  Based on what I have read, I believe this to be due to the side effects (thin uterine lining, decreased CM, cysts, hyperstimulation, etc), as well as the fact that if it doesn't work within 4-6 cycles, it probably won't.  I've also seen people say you should only take it for a certain amount of time in your lifetime and I can't seem to find information on this.  I'm curious why this might be the case, as most of what I reads talks about how clomid is a safe, effective drug if used correctly.

I've done quite a bit of research and I'm not coming up with any articles that discuss exactly how long someone should take this in their lifetime.  All I can find is information stating that women who take it for more than 12 cycles may have an increased risk of ovarian cancer, but that wasn't from a very reliable source.

Do any of you ladies have any links to articles from reliable resources that discuss this?

That's exactly right.  There are other drugs like fermera that can help with O, but Clomid doesn't work for everyone no matter how many cycles you might try taking it.  No reputable Dr will prescribe you a drug that is not proven safe or effective for an extended period of time.

  • I agree with pp.  My dr prescribed Femara, because it doesn't seem to have the same issues as clomid.  It is used off label for ovulation induction.
